Greene county and its units received 1 150 422 in state distributions for 1947 48, plus 31 64 per capita local taxes, totaling 68 36 per capita in cost. Mrs. Fannie Grey 71, formerly of Worthington, died Monday night at her daughter Miss Martha Grey’s home in Troy Ohio. Survived by daughter two nieces and five nephews. Body arrived Worthington and taken to Myers Funeral home for viewing. Funeral at 2 pm Thursday at Worthington Christian Church with Rev L C Graham officiating. burial in Worthington cemetery.
Mrs. Donetta Howk of Dugger died suddenly at home Tuesday at 6 45 p m. Survived by five sons John Theodore Alfred Cleo all of Indianapolis Everett Jordon Critchfield of Constantine Mich a daughter Mrs David Brown of Scotchtown four sisters Mrs George Morris Mrs Frank Sweeney both of Byron Mich Mrs John Hill of Illinois and Mrs Estel Dickerson of Kywall Kan and a brother Sherman Critchfield of Lawrenceville Ill. body taken to Evans Funeral Home in Dugger pending funeral arrangements.
Linton police hunt a person who tossed a stone through a large window at the P. R. Olinger store on Third and A streets southwest about 8 p m Monday. Officials offer no motive and suspect a mental quirk. Citizens urged to report similar occurrences.
An Indiana UP survey shows 61 of 71 state senators and representatives favor standardizing time year round. They prefer keeping Central Standard Time with no daylight saving in summer, to end seasonal clock changes and avoid local confusion.
The weatherman discounted reports of a cold wave with snow for Indiana noting temperatures in the 30s today and 20s tonight. The federal weather bureau expects fair to partly cloudy skies with no snow in northern Indiana. Tonight's lows range 20 to 32 with snow in the north and rain in the south forecast for Friday. Indianapolis and South Bend reported a 26 degree low last night.

Charles S. Johnson of Terre Haute was fined $10 and costs and sentenced to three months on the state penal farm after pleading guilty to obtaining money under false pretenses. He appeared before Judge Sidney Gelbin Knok in Vincennes after delays for more time to enter a plea. Johnson was arrested by Bicknell police who said he admitted fleecing $31 under the pretense of funding a men's bowling team.
Mrs. Betty Cullison of Bloomfield, seriously ill, is improving and staying with her parents Mr and Mrs John Whites in West Linton. Friends are invited to call.
John Comer, long a patient at the Veteran's hospital since November 5, has undergone major surgery and is reported to be recovering successfully.

Dutch envoy Van Royen said Paris session would continue operations at all costs. U S officials prepared a resolution labeling the Dutch aggressors and Hoffman halted recovery aid to the Netherlands East Indies until the conflict ends.
Mrs. Caroline Humphreys widow of James L. Humphreys died in Freeman County Hospital at 4 45 PM Tuesday after a two week illness. Born May 29 1864 in Sullivan she was 84 years 6 months and 22 days old. She lived in Linton 36 years was active in the local Baptist church. Survived by five daughters a son a brother and a sister. Funeral at Welch Cornett Funeral Home with private services at 2 PM Thursday burial in Fairview Cemetery.
Dugger resident Louis E. Beck age 70, a former coal miner and carpenter, died at 2 15 this morning at his home. Born January 24, 1878 in Greene County, he leaves wife Alice Borders Beck, three daughters Frances Byarly, Anna Mae Norris, Phyllis E Hyatt, ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren, plus siblings. Newkirk Funeral Home to handle arrangements with services Friday at Dugger Church of Christ.
Tokyo dispatch reports Hideki Tojo and six other Japanese wartime leaders were hanged at Sugamo prison between 12:00 and 12:35 a.m. on December 23 1948 following the International Military Tribunal of the Far East trial. The executions were carried out by an American hangman, likely Lt. Charles Rexroad, with witnesses few in number.
