A Des Moines man Otis V. Fetters aged 51 employed by the Iowa State Highway Commission was arrested for driving a snow plow while intoxicated. A collection of wire items from New York discusses cigars for Christmas and includes a broader column of assorted quotes and anecdotes.
Mrs. Clara F. E. Lukenbill of Marco spent six weeks in Methodist Hospital Indianapolis and now recovers at the home of her daughter Mrs. Lorin C. McIntosh in Worthington after a major operation.
Batavia dispatch says Indonesian Republican radio claims Jogjakarta recaptured as Dutch spokesman brands report nonsense. Dutch forces say paratroopers seized the capital and 19 UN staff remain trapped. broadcasts describe uprisings and counterattacks while Dutch armor advances toward Jogjakarta.

The Linton Junior High School Welders teams defeated Brazil Grade school squads at the Brazil gym. The Seventh grade won 23 to 7 led by Joe Haseman eight points. The A team trailed 19 to 11 before a late burst produced a 23 to 28 win with Tucker Holmes and Griffiths scoring. The Welders will have a layoff until after Christmas holidays.
The Greene county clerk at Bloomfield issued two marriage licenses. Recipients are Earl Rex Sparks of Bloomfield route four and Irene Arvella Hamlin of Bloomfield route one. Also listed are Chester Lee York of Franklin and Patricia Ann Fines of Indianapolis.
Linton stores will stay open until 8 p.m. each day through Thursday. On Friday they will close at 5 p.m. Barber shops in Linton will open until 5 p.m. daily, including Thursday, and until 7 p.m. on Friday.
Indianapolis December 21 Watts 29 year old Indiana truck driver lost his appeal on a 1947 murder conviction. The Indiana Supreme Court upheld the circuit court ruling finding no racial discrimination nor improper jury remarks and that his confession was properly admitted. He faces execution in February after two stays.
Officers of the Linton Salvation Army express gratitude for toys clothing money and groceries received to support the Christmas campaign. Donations include ten and twenty dollar gifts from individuals and groups along with large kettle offerings and charity items from local stores and clubs.

Robert V Christen of Denver pleaded innocent to charges of a sex murder for which another man has been sentenced to death. Ralph Lobaugh of Kokomo, a gravedigger, awaits a new hearing to overturn his conviction for the slaying of Mrs Dorothea Howard. Lobaugh says he was drugged when he pleaded guilty to three murders. His latest stay of execution extends to May 26. Charles D Dodson, Memphis postal clerk, faces first degree murder charges in the Howard case. his petition to quash the indictment will be heard tomorrow.
A high Chinese policy source says Chiang Kai-Shek handed Sun Fo full power to decide between peace or war with the Chinese Communist forces. The cabinet is expected to push for negotiated peace possibly with Russian or joint Russian American mediation. Sun Fo demands an honorable peace with no more than equal coalition power for Red leaders.
The clerk of the Clay Circuit Court at Brazil issued a marriage license to Norman Clayton Nelson of Clay City and Naomi Maxine Coleman of Jasonville route two.

Mrs. Jennie Whiteside of Jasonville route two and Otis Morris of Lyons route one were admitted for medical treatment yesterday. Leroy Baker was admitted after a Friar Tuck mine accident. Wilfred D. Roof underwent an appendectomy. Berniece Dailey had a tonsillectomy. Reba Williams and baby were dismissed. Joanna Wright was taken to General hospital in Indianapolis.
Leroy Baker of Linton is treated at Freeman Greene County Hospital for injuries to his right hand suffered at 3:30 p m Monday at the Friar Tuck stripper mine west of Jasonville. His hand was caught between the shaft and casing on the drill and he sustained broken bones without amputation.
Linton Fire Department was called at 8 30 this morning to the Hi Way cafe on A street northeast where a gas pipe broke during repair work and ignited. No damage resulted.
Shanghai dispatch says Capt Quentin Roosevelt grandson of Theodore Roosevelt was aboard a C 54 transport that crashed near Hong Kong with 31 to 33 dead. A Roosevelt household member in Shanghai confirms he was aboard. Indiana bids total 1 112 374 on eight highway maintenance contracts including Keith Riley for resurfacing Ind 67 over Greene and Owen counties.
Laurence Duggan 43, former State Department aide linked to secret documents for Whittaker Chambers, dies after falling from a 16th story West 405th Street building. Mundt and Hiss react to the death as related espionage investigations continue.
Jess Wingler of Livonia, 44, was killed near Salem when slate fell and pierced his skull at a Washington county highway rock quarry. Police said Wingler was working at the site at the time of the accident.
