Arthur Haseman Greene county agricultural agent prepared the display Your Key to Good Pastures which won the blue ribbon at Purdue University agricultural extension conference. Beulah Mc Daniels home southeast of Switz City was destroyed by a fire Saturday afternoon likely caused by faulty wiring. Lyons Fire department arrived too late to save the house. only a front room with a small amount of furniture survived. Some loss was covered by insurance.
Funeral services were held at the Newberry Lutheran church for Mrs. Elizabeth Jane Hilburn 83 who died Saturday at her son Jonas Hilburns home in Newberry after a long illness. She lived much of her life in Newberry and was a member of the church. She is survived by four sons, two brothers, two sisters, nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Burial was in Slinkard cemetery. Jenkins and Sons Funeral Home of Lyons had charge.
A Christmas program will be held at Burris Chapel at 7 o clock Tuesday evening. Santa Claus will distribute treats to children after the program. Mrs Catherine Bennett and Mrs Nina Wright lead the program with Mrs Nellie Ellis as pianist.
Linton City firemen were called around 6 30 Saturday evening to the city dump area southeast of town where a grass fire touched utility poles. They reported only minor damage from the incident.

A six pound baby boy was born by Caesarean to Mildred McKee of Jasonville. Mrs. Joanna Wright of Coal City admitted for medical care today. Spencer Caps defeated Worthington Ramblers 35 30 Friday evening ending Worthington’s undefeated run. Brannon led Worthington with 13 points while Dowell scored 14 for Spencer. Scotland beat Switz City 35 29 in overtime as Cochrane led with 12 for Bloomfield 55 Dugger 31.

Heavy snow on Indiana roads over the weekend contributed to six traffic deaths in multiple towns. Brownsburg men James Phillips and Fletcher Brunes died when their car was struck by a New York Central train near Fillmore. Alvin Scher of Clermont died in a head on collision on U.S. 6 near Butler. Esther Jackson of New Augusta was fatally injured in a two car crash on Ind. 37 near Elwood. Harry Plough of Russiaville was killed after being thrown from his car in Logansport. Howard Keeler of Muncie died when his car hit a truck on Ind. 28 near the Madison-Delaware line.
Indianapolis December 20. Arthur Campbell, named by Governor Schricker as the Democratic choice for State Police Superintendent, is ruled ineligible under the 1945 State Police Act. The act requires five years as a police executive or equivalent military or police experience. Campbell has about three years from World War I and has spent most of his career in education.
