Mrs. Oksana Kosenkina, 52, a Russian schoolteacher, leaped three stories from the Soviet consulate in New York amid reports of slavery and death. Miss Wilma Porter of Salsberry admitted for medical treatment. Mrs Betty Minks and baby went home to Scotland. Carl Smith of Bloomfield was dismissed. Berry Short of Crane went home today. Miss Reta Ann Waskom of Stinesville was released today.

Murroughs three, Maumee Collieries company fifty, and Linton Chapter No. 19 Women of Moose five.
Mr and Mrs Ray Gatz of Louisville Kentucky announce the birth of a son Glenn Wolford born Sunday Aug 1 He weighed seven pounds three ounces The mother is the former Betty Wolford of Linton
Indiana voters face a November 2 referendum on a World War II veterans bonus costing about 142 million dollars plus admin costs. About 385,000 veterans would be eligible for roughly 369 dollars each, with financing options including sales tax, income tax tweaks, property tax hikes, or a 40 dollar annual personal exemption. The nonbinding referendum asks for funding method and approval of the bonus.

A 19 year old mother confessed to choking her two month old baby stating I didn’t like him. Deputies report fingermarks on the child’s neck and say she will undergo mental observation before possible murder charges or institutional commitment depending on her sanity.
Lieut Col and Mrs Louis Chaney of Fort Walton Florida and family visit relatives in the Plummer community east of Lyons Indiana. Chaney is stationed at Eglin Field Florida and will attend an Army Air Corps Staff school in Norfolk Virginia after his Indiana furlough.

Washington August 13 Two former New Deal officials Lauchlin Currie and Harry D White testified before the House Un American Activities committee denying they supplied confidential war information to a Soviet spy ring. They said they were friends with Nathan Gregory Silvermaster and intervened to prevent his firing. Currie claimed he referred the case to the War Department as customary. White said Silvermaster denied being a communist and that five folders of confidential material disappeared from the Treasury during the war and were not recovered.

In Hammond Indiana Elmer Longfellow was crushed when a jacked car toppled while he removed a spring. Neighbors alerted an ambulance after the accident as a friend returned from a garage and learned of the tragedy.
Ninth Naval District reports Midland man William Carlton Knippenburg has been selected for the Air Medal with permanent citation for meritorious aerial flight while with Patrol Bombing Squadron 123 in the Western Pacific from May 26 to Aug. 15, 1945. Navy HQ notes his last address is Midland Indiana and efforts to locate him continue.
Greene County Prosecutor John O Moomaw continues investigations to seek permission from the State Board of Health to exhume Leslie Hutchinson the first husband of Mrs Irene Miller. Miller is free from Greene circuit court in Bloomfield after poisoning with intent to kill charges. Hutchinson died May 20 1936 aged 31 at Pleasantville with chronic heart leakage listed as cause. Reports say Hutchinson suffered heart trouble most of his life.
Paul Elkins age 16 was treated for a fractured collar bone after his bike hit a street bump near East Vincennes. He recalls the hand grip coming off and being thrown into the air before landing with the Whizzer bike atop him. He was taken to a hospital and later home.
The Allen's Flower Shop softball team fell 4 to 1 to a Indiana State Teachers College opponent in Linton. Miller pitched seven innings, allowed two hits, and suffered his second two hit defeat this season.
An American C-54 transport attempted a ground controlled landing at Tempelhof and crashed, burning, but the three crew members Capt. Georg Adams Co-Pilot Linton T. Floyd and Engineer Charles O Hara escaped unharmed. The incident occurred during heavy weather amid Berlin blockade tensions.
