Show and Tell Turns to Evacuation at California School
An 8-year-old boy brought a hand grenade to La Crescenta elementary on Monday. The scene prompted evacuation after the teacher alerted the principal. The Los Angeles County sheriff bomb squad removed the grenade, which was real but not live, according to a sheriff's spokesman. The boy said the grenade came from a young cousin.

Mt Hood Geothermal Plan Aims to Heat Portland
Northwest Natural Gas Co plans a five year test to drill two exploratory wells on Mt Hood to tap a 10 000 acre area for hot water. If successful the project could heat Portland and supply factories along a 43 mile pipeline at about 150 degrees. Estimated cost about 50 million with potential private home heating along the route.
