Justice Dept challenges oil shipping rates via Trans Alaska Pipeline

The Justice Department protests up to 900 million dollars in next year’s overcharges by seven major oil firms shipping through the Trans Alaska Pipeline System. It asks ICC to block rates up to two dollars per barrel, wants new filings on short notice, and cites rate ranges from 6.04 to 6.44 per barrel versus recommended 4.40 to 4.60. A decision is due by June 30 as the pipeline opens.

Tornados Cause Damage at Sioux City Nursing Home and Park

Two mini tornados struck Sioux City at dawn injuring two residents from Martin's Evergreen Village. Five trailers overturned and 35 damaged at the trailer park. the Casa DePaz Nursing Home suffered roof and sprinkler system damage with no additional injuries. Residents remained during repairs.

Power outage hits city grid from 1st to 70th Streets

A transformer failure at the 70th and Calvert substation caused an area wide outage from about 12:55 a.m. to 2:22 a.m. Eight nearby substations were knocked offline. The western area restored by 1:41 a.m. while the eastern side remained dark until 2:22 a.m.
