Girls School Riot Erupts at Indiana Facility

CLERMONT Ind AP Indiana State Police prepared to move into the girls' school correctional center after a riot that began in midafternoon and left nine inmates missing. More than 100 officers restored order at the low security facility where inmates aged 12 to 19 caused extensive damage. The disturbance followed an attack on the high school principal and marked the second major riot in 17 months. Sheriff Capt Lee Eads warned of further outbreaks without better discipline and security, citing a 1964 riot and a inmate complaint about writing privileges and visitation.
