Porter Widow Mrs Rolla Porter Dies in Minneapolis
Telegram from Tiestey reports the death of Mrs Rolla Porter at Minneapolis aged about seventy years. Born in Bedford County Virginia she moved to Missouri in 1835 with her family. Widow of steamboat captain Rolla Porter she had lived in Abiscity about five years ago and was a sister of William Hale and Mrs A J Graham of this city and Mrs Fannie James of Tyler Texas. She left two daughters Mrs Frank Bell and Mrs Edward Ahrens and a son William. Remains arrived with Will Porter and wife and Mrs Edward Alkens. Interment at Machpelah cemetery conducted by Rev T M Cobb.

Shelby College land ejectment suit filed in circuit court
On November 2 the widow and heirs of Gen. Jos. O. Shelby by attorney T J Duling filed ejectment against Geo B Fletcher to recover a tract north of Alma known as the Shelby College land. The case centers on a 1855 deed to Shelby before his marriage, claimed void for lack of consideration, while title was in Shelby at death. Verdict in the Bilas Johnson case: jury fixed a nine year imprisonment penalty. reports say nine jurors favored hanging, six held out for a hung jury.

Odessa Farmer Dies In Windmill Accident
Kobert Broughton of Odessa was killed Sunday when a windmill tank in his yard toppled as he prepped the machine for unhooking during a drive with his wife. He had recently moved back to Johnson County and left a son, a daughter, and a widow. The accident occurred soon after returning home from a court assignment. funeral services were held in Odessa.
