Deaths of an early settler and Confederate veteran Handly
An obituary notes John Campbell Handly born 1821 in Greenbrier County Virginia died at his home near Aullville Lafayette County on a Saturday at age about 81. A farmer stockman and Civil War veteran, he lived on his farm since the 1840s and was a long respected neighbor member of Zion Hill church. He left four sons a daughter two stepdaughters and is mourned by many, with services held at Zion Hill.

Walnut gavel from Confederate battle tree gifted to local camp
About a month ago Mrs. Joseph A. Wilson presented the Sterling Price Camp U. O. of Dallas Texas with a gavel carved from a walnut tree that stood on the firing line of Confederate troops at Lexington Missouri. Under this tree men of Bletoise's command served and fought in the Civil War.
