Pioneers to Celebrate at Concordia Lafayette County

German American Pioneers of Lafayette County plan their annual celebration at Concordia on May 15 with the Concordia Band providing music throughout the day. The program opens with a depot reception, address of welcome by Mayor M Doble, and officer installations. Activities include a parade to Concordia Park, band concerts, speeches by N Haerle, and evening concert with boating, bowling, rifle shooting, and refreshments available. An anticipated large attendance reflects the region’s German American community.

Wentworth Cadets Impress In Annual Inspection

Wentworth Military academy hosted a Thursday inspection led by Capt M J Linnehan U S A with a daylong program of guard mount artillery drill platoon company battalion drill and a full dress battalion review. Cadets performed almost perfectly with little error and a large crowd praised the impressive dress parade and colors escort.

Oak Gentwe Neot of Liberty arrived Tuesday evening to visit relatives. George Cohra returned to Kansas City Thursday after a visit with relatives. Miss Eleanor Clark of Tivonville arrived Wednesday for a several days visit with Mrs Rewvans. Frances Rinehart returned from an extended stay with relatives in Bucyrus Kansas.

Miss Carrie Field Hosts Eighteen at 1 o'clock Luncheon

Miss Carrie Field entertained eighteen young ladies at a 1 o'clock luncheon on Wednesday at her South Thirteenth Street home honoring Miss Agnes Lippencott of Kansas City. The event, noted for its four course elegant service, included Miss Rocille Sturgis of Waco among attendees. County court session approves bridge contract and road petitions

Judges Hagood Klingenberg Thomas with Sheriff Kinkead and Clerk Glasecock oversee a regular session. The court released school loans for Johanna B King and Charles & King after full payment. Petitions for a new road and vacation of an old road by George A Campbell et al were laid over to Wednesday for further hearing. George L Hudson et al petitions for a new road laid over to Wednesday. The court granted Alexander Maitland, president of the Kansas City Bridge Company, the contract to erect a steel bridge 1 feet span across the Sun-a-bar creek about miles east of Bates City with feet approaches, at 1,140,009. The clerk is authorized to draw a road and bridge fund warrant for 1,000 in favor of the Kansas City Bridge Company for steel works.

Chas. Geyer presents a four act sensation “For Her Brothers Sake” in his spacious tent drawing a large, satisfied audience. Mamie Haekker Agnes Geyer and Sally Nicholson receive praise for their performances with notable turns by M. G. B. Marshall Count DeRobeo and Frank. A lively closing concert features end men Mr Geyer and DeRobeo, a Dutch song and dance, a trombone solo, and a coon song with a bicycle stunt finale.

Miss Evans entertained forty young people at her South Street home on Thursday for Miss Clark of Boonville with whist as the feature. Dr Chalkley won the men’s prize a tobacco jar, Mrs Ramsay the ladies prize a string of beads, and Miss Clark a gold belt buckle on the guest prize. Death by own action ends mail clerk G W Lennon life

G W Lennon a married mail clerk on eastbound passenger train 622 died after drinking carbolic acid on a Wellington sidetrack. A 35 year old man with a wife and one child, he suffered 20 minutes of agony before death. Ill health and depression were given as factors. burial took place in Sedalia.

Elks Beat Wentworth Faculty In Rainy Campus Game

Elks won 6 to 4 after eight innings as Brockman and Church combined for nine and seven strikeouts respectively. Ramsey's slugging and Mickminn catching starred the Elks defense while the faculty offense produced four runs before rain halted play.
