Lafayette County Democratic Convention Adopts Pro-Democrat Platform

The Lafayette County Democratic convention met in Higginsville and elected leadership including J J Fulkerson as chair. Delegates from townships selected for the state convention and the body endorsed Stone and Hamlin and urged voting for Reed and Champ Clark for national delegates with Bryan as presidential nominee.

Old Men's Club to Hold Dover Meeting in June

The semi annual Old Men's Club gathering set for Dover on Saturday June 6 2908 lists George P. Gordon as president John W White as vice president and Frank Bowman as secretary. Since the September meeting eleven members have died with memorials to be discussed by committees for each passing including Thomas Shelby Abner Ward Stephen L Cheatham J Fitagerel John T Patton and others. The club shows a 114 member roster with many names given among officers and attendees.

Golden wedding bells mark Voigt pair's 50 years

Mr and Mrs FP W Voigt of this city celebrated their golden wedding at Mrs Charlotte Open's home. Born in Germany, they arrived in the U.S. in 1847 and 1853, married in 1858, and moved to Missouri in 1868. They raised 10 children and have 24 grandchildren. The couple enjoy good health and happiness with extensive family support.

German American Pioneer Day Celebrated in Concordia

School Enumeration Shows Rise in Lexington District

The Lexington school district counts 1074 children ages six to twenty, with 613 white males, 613 white females, 210 colored males, and 242 colored females. Three white and two colored are deaf and dumb, one white is blind. Last year the total was 1541, an increase hindered by about 60 families leaving Glen Oak due to mine abandonments.

Tornado damages farm near Odesag injures one person

Advice from a telephone report on Tuesday described a small tornado south of town after noon. A large dwelling, barn, and several houses on Mrs Erick Hader's farm seven miles east of Odesag were demolished. None of the house occupants were hurt though Mrs Hader and several children were inside. Her son's dwelling nearby was untouched. Mrs Hader is sister to Mrs Sims and Mrs White of the city. Mr and Mrs Sims visited the farm Wednesday morning.

Fire alarm at headquarters ends in false alarm

About 8 20 Thursday morning a fire alarm rang at headquarters and the fire bell sounded. The fire department rushed to the scene, laid out a long hose, but learned the fire was out. The blaze was caused by an overheated stove in the home of F F Nicholson.

Graves for Senate Nomination Narrowed Field

Judge Graves consented to run for the Democratic nomination for state senator after Lafayette county’s turn. with Mr. Moorehead withdrawing, the field appears clear for Graves. He will make a formal announcement in a few days.

Appointed Maid of Honor Named for Missouri UCV Reunion

Major General ZH. Lowdermilk heads the Missouri division of the United Confederate Veterans for the Birmingham Alabama reunion. One of nine maids of honor is Miss Nadine Steele of this city. The appointment honors the Missouri division and local post and reflects credit on both.

A social dance at Titter Hall drew many young people as the Evans Mountain orchestra played entrancing tunes. Tonight the ladies plan a retire dance for the gentlemen.
