Mrs. Lyon B. Gordon Dead in Lexington
Mrs. Lyon B. Gordon, formerly Myrtle Terhune, died Tuesday at 3:40 PM at her South Street home after a long illness. Born October 30, 1885, she would have turned 23 next birthday. She married Lynn B. Gordon May 1, 1907, and was active in local social life. Survived by husband, her mother Mrs. Mary Terhune, two sisters, two brothers, and was interred at Machpelah after a Wednesday funeral at the Christian church.

Smooth but Unlucky Jail Break Foiled by Deputy Sheriff
Wednesday around 8 30 p m one of the cleverest jail break attempts was frustrated by deputy Herbert Kinkead. Bob Miller of Higginsville awaiting a June term for store burglary crafted a plaster key and melted lead to fashion a fake key. He, with Willie Proctor, was found in the hallway when chains clanked. Miller claimed the door was left unlocked. later he admitted secrets and hid the real key in a mattress. The deputy recovered the key and lead from a tin cup, ending the escape plan.

Mrs Bates Dies After Long Illness in Lexington
Mrs Bridget Bates a longtime Lexington resident died at her Highland Avenue home Monday afternoon at 4 30 following a lingering illness. Born in 1840 in County Galway Ireland she came to America at 13 and settled near Independence Missouri. She lived most of her life in Lexington where she was a devout Catholic and active worker. Survived by daughters Mrs John Brice Mrs Henry Yingling of Omaha Mrs J T Toland of Kansas City Mrs John Toner of Sioux City and Miss Della Gallagher and Mrs James O Malley of Lexington with 15 grandchildren. Funeral at the Catholic church tomorrow at 10 conducted by Father George B Curry. Pallbearers named J B Lynch S Lynch W M Lynch Jos Lynch Ed Lynch and M J Lynch.

Roughhouse leads to city officers detaining two men
