Central College staged a minstrel show enjoyed by a large crowd. The female performers displayed versatility from the sublime to the ridiculous, with well-rehearsed numbers including the Parisian Fashion Shop. The audience praised clever staging, refined humor, strong choreography, and an accomplished orchestra.
William Langolf and Esther Phetzing, both of Granite City Illinois, married Wednesday at 8 p m in the bride’s aunt home at 1704 Bloom Street. Rev R N Allen officiated. The couple left yesterday for their Granite City home. E B Campbell traveled to Kansas City yesterday on business.
Lieut William M Hoge Jr and Nettie Fredendall wed in a brilliant social event celebrated Tuesday evening. The home featured greens and roses, a three piece orchestra, and Miss Pauline Sellers singing. Rev Charles A Weed officiated as the couple, in formal attire, accepted congratulations and departed for Washington DC where the groom is stationed with the First United States Engineers.
Michael Holwell died Thursday at 2 30 at his home on sixth street from dropsy of the heart. Born in Ro sommon Ireland August 15 1833 he came to America at eighteen and long resided in Lexington. Survived by sister Miss Katherine Holwell Alberquerque N M and brothers Henry in Ireland and John in this city. Funeral held at the Catholic church Monday morning.
B C Drummond, editor and owner of The Lexington News for thirteen years, has sold the paper to James B Slater of Kansas City. The deal closed Thursday and possession was given Monday. Drummond began in 1892 with the Mayview Monitor and later owned the Wellington Quivieve, Odessa Moon, and Odessa Ledger before purchasing The Lexington News.
At the assembly meeting the Woman's Club elected officers for the coming year: Mrs. Felix Young president, J G Crenshaw vice president, Eugene Marshall recording secretary, Juliet Young corresponding secretary, C Weddell treasurer, Carry Field historian, Algernon Smith auditor, T C Ryland press reporter. Delegates chosen to the State Biennial Convention in Kansas City from May 22 to 25 include Mrs. T C Ryland and Miss Carry Field.
Otto Mittie was found guilty under a $100 fine plus costs for shooting at Deputy Sheriff John Toner during a raid on a poker game months ago. Clifton Parks Walter Calemese and William Knox burglary case continued to August 8. William Zellers sentenced to two years in the penitentiary for carrying concealed weapons.
Missouri College of Agriculture experts say war demand will raise need for soybeans as feeding concentrate for oils and human food. Soybean meal rivals cottonseed meal in value, likely keeping cottonseed meal costly. Enlisted Navy volunteers Joe Spot Mavel and Henry Pax left for Great Lakes training. W. J. Sydnor traveled to Higginsville on business.

The roster names cadets instructors and local men deemed fit for camp.
Sunday morning about 6 o clock two valuable White Holland turkey hens were found missing from the poultry yard of Miss Carrie Schaal on the Higginsville road. Constable A R Rush found tracks near the coop leading to George Taylor and George Robinson seated to the feast. One turkey served, one prepared for the pot. Both were arrested. Taylor freed on 1000 bond signed by Charles Lyons, Prof Green and Wm Hagood. Robinson a sheriff's guest. They waived preliminary Monday and booked for August term of criminal court.
Capt. R P Palmer now reviews applications for the Officers Reserve Training Camp at Ft. Riley. Applicants should submit at once to Palmer at Wentworth. He replaces the Central Division Headquarters in Chicago as final authority. If demand exceeds capacity, selections will be made at Ft. Riley when the class reports May 14.
L Wilson of Lafayette county was named president of the County Collectors Association at its annual Moberly meeting held on the 18th and 19th. He was absent when the honor was announced. The group selected St Louis as the next meeting site for May 22 to 28, 1918.
W V Curtis received a telegram Friday morning from Lexington announcing the death of his brother Joseph N Curtis at 8 o'clock in Lexington. He formerly resided here and was 78 years old. Besides his brother, he is survived by Miss Atta Curtis of the city.
Mrs. Ike Noyes and her sister Miss Adelaid Higgins traveled to Kansas City on Wednesday for a day trip. Mrs. A J Chalkley and her son Judson left yesterday to visit her sister Mrs Fannie Stonestreet in St. Louis.

Wentworth senior class honored five cadets Mozley Matheson Marquis Eaton and Kelly leaving for ROTC training. They will receive diplomas at commencement. Major Sandford Sellers Jr acted as toastmaster with Col Sellers Capt Palmer Capt Lae tham William Aull Jr and Dr Gordon sharing advice. Cadet Warwick gave final remarks as the gathering closed with the school song and America.
Mrs Clark Murray returned yesterday to her Kansas City home after visiting her parents Mr and Mrs Peter Stronberg in town.
Lafayette County Court clerk GEO. W. BATES invites sealed bids by May 7 1917 for two year depositary of county and school funds. Bids must meet R. S. Mo. 1909 Chap 34 Art 8 and not be less than two tenths.
