Kemper Military School cadets struggle to solve Jaied Collins as Wentworths push across runs from the third inning. Kemper collects nine hits while Collins fans nine and walks four, with Kemper finally salting away nine runs in a lopsided effort.
The Woman's Club of Lexington met to organize a Surgical Dressing Society with sixty members. President Mrs. George Fuller spoke on "The Business of being a Club Woman" and Mrs. Anthiene Peet discussed "Club Activities" as leaders from Missouri federations attended.
In district court on Thursday T T Dean of Bates City pled guilty to three charges and paid $40 in each. Three additional counts will be pressed in August. Solomon Jackson convicted Friday of carrying concealed weapons and sentenced to two years. George Arnett convicted for stealing chickens and sentenced to two years. State v John Mansell for assault with intent to kill continued to August. Frank Springer pled guilty to common assault and fined $1 and costs. Court adjourned to April 30.
Mrs John Exlughes has returned to her Kansas City home after a week visiting Steve Hughess and family. California visitors Chas Rodekohr and family arrived Friday for a stay with Harry Rodekohr and others. Miss Annex Mity Starke of Lexington spent Saturday and Sunday at the L H Lewis home. Mrs S M Reynolda and daughter Dorris shopped in Kansas City Wednesday. C J Prгaman ay! family and Geo Fricke traveled to Rack sand for a motor trip.
Sunday’s game pleased the home crowd as Athletics pelted the All Stars for five runs while limiting the visitors to zero. Jay Harding homered, Joe Howe had three hits, and Hale held the lineup with effective pitching. Umpire Barrett Bates and field umpire Lester Bryant officiated as Harding and Young caught for the All Stars and Hale and Shinn for the Athletics.
A Kansas City Post report says MacBrayer Sellers and several University of Chicago athletes volunteered Wednesday for service in the United States Marine Corps.
Marriage licenses were issued to Alvin F Frerking of Aullville and Edna Marsh of Aullville. The notice mentions further social visits: Mr and Mrs W H Comer visiting daughter Mrs G H Bates and returning to Versailles Mo. Mrs Bates and baby Norma Elizabeth accompanying them home. Also noted are visits by Mrs Leo Harrison to Kansas City, Mrs Walter Day of Bedford Indiana visiting her daughter Mrs John Acree, and Mrs W R Humphreys and daughter traveling to Grand Rapids Mich for her brother Wm Steele’s wedding.
R E Ashurst denounces an incorporated purchasing bureau for Lafayette County farm clubs during an April 14 1917 address to the Lafayette County Farmers Association in Higginsville Missouri He urges banks and cooperative elevators to help farmers store grain and avoid market speculation criticizing elevating firms and big merchants.
Capt R P Palmer of Wentworth Military Academy directs applications for the Reserve Officers Camp at Ft Riley Kansas starting May 8. No technical exam. physical exam and proof of education and character required. College men and military graduates favored. Age 20 to 40. 2500 trainees to be trained. transportation clothing and sustenance provided. Apply at once.
Serat Wiley, an obliging Crenshaw and Young's Drug Store clerk, has earned a certificate as a full fledged assistant pharmacist after passing the State Board of Pharmacy examination. Congratulations are extended.
Marshall High School boys defeated Lexington High School by a score of 8 to 6 in Marshall. The game, played Friday, showcased a tight contest with both teams scoring in the first half and Marshall edging ahead in the final minutes.
Clerk of the County Court will receive sealed bids until May 7 1917 for the depositary of Lafayette County and School funds for two years. Bids must meet Missouri law and no bid under two tenths will be considered. Miss Lucretia Williams left for Pratt Kansas to take a flouring mill position, with Miss Mabel Ainsworth accompanying to Kansas City.
