Gillen Store Robbery Ends With Shootout In Riverfront Chase
Gillen hardware store robbed Monday night. Thief seized four pistols four rifles one shotgun and numerous knives spoons and nickelware. Sam Delap ferry watchman chased suspect, who shot Delap in the left cheek. Delap survived. burglar later identified as Shorty Roe and taken to Kansas City jail.

Seriously Stabbed Miners Fight Ends in Serious Wounds
Alfred Anderson a Swede and James Anderson an American miners at the Midway mine quarreled Wednesday night in front of Ed Pennington's house. Alfred was stabbed in the abdomen twice with deep wounds. Drs Dra Tucker and Fredendall treated the injuries and sewed the cuts. The final outcome remains uncertain as authorities investigate the incident.

Senate Ratifies Cuban and Panama Canal Treaties
The Senate approved the Cuban reciprocity treaty by 50 to 16 and the Panama Canal treaty with Colombia by 54 to 5 after a busy extra session. Death of Henry Branch in Missouri County
Henry C Branch aged ninety nine died at his home five miles south of Lexington from old age. Born February 14 1824 in Rockingham Virginia he lived in Missouri 63 years and in this county 26. He married twice and had four children with each wife. Funeral conducted by Rev J C Given and Rev J K Dunn at My chapel cemetery with most children present. He was a devout member of the M E church South and widely known in the county.

Mrs. Mary A. Kirtley widow of Asa T. Kirtley died of pneumonia at her daughter Mrs. H T Bates home in Harrisonville Missouri after about ten days illness. She was about 78 years old with roots in Carroll and Lafayette counties and Wellington. Survived by two children Arthur Kirtley and Mrs. B. H. Bates. Funeral in the city Baptist church Friday at 10 o clock with Harrisonville pastor officiating. Interment Machpelah cemetery.

Died Thursday Morning Thomas Fitzgerald Jr
Thomas Fitzgerald Jr died Thursday morning at his father Thomas Witywerald’s home in East Lexington at 8 o'clock after a yearlong consumption. Born January 27, 1679 in Ray County, he long resided in Lafayette, first on a farm then in Lexington. A young man of good character, he was highly regarded and a member of the Catholic church.

City Council approves measures on sheep abatement and elections
At a special meeting the board of health urged removing sheep from Cole's livery penstock, with city marshal told to notify the owner and city attorney authorized to act if needed. Mayors appointed Schawe and James to public garden plats, and tiling at the Old Town trough revised. Streets committee to report on a public alley between 22d and 23d streets off Main at next meeting. An April 14 special election is set to vote on abandoning the current charter and reorganizing Lexington as a city under the old class, with judges and clerks of election appointed and approved by council.

A Thursday night welcome for Miss Benfey drew a smaller crowd than hoped but the opera house was comfortably filled. The chapter netted about $100 and the renowned reader and storyteller earned high praise from attendees. W. B. Baltot and his wife arrived from the east Friday morning.

Mrs. Mumle Yingling nee Mamie Davis died Tuesday night at 11 50 at her East South street residence after a ten day pneumonia battle. Born August 25 1873 in Oyahi Nob she married C E Yingling in 1884 and leaves three children Helen Frances and Margaret. Funeral services conducted by Rev R B Briney Friday at 260 o'clock with interment at Maylopelah cemetery.
