City Council Adopts Remonstrance and Scales Upgrade
In adjourned session on June 20 the council authorized signing for a city hall and prison bonds, adopted a remonstrance on property on Hed street, approved a 20 year Fayette Telephone Company franchise, and moved to mail bid specifications. A scale project for the third ward was authorized with a six ton capacity and $830 credit for old scales, with delivery terms set by the mayor. The meeting closed with plans for a Mason gathering featuring Dr. C C Woods, noting the historic College building on site dating to 1847 and its transformation to a Methodist site, now part of a prominent campus battlefield area.

Jury Acquits Arthur Moort in Bradford Murder Case
A special jury in Gage returned a not guilty verdict Tuesday night after about ninety minutes of deliberation. Prosecution Attorneys N. M Houx and H. F. Blackwell led the state defending the defendant, Welborn Lyons and Fred Urfer. The second trial followed a hung jury in the first trial.

A house party honored Miss Florida Stier with games and three prizes awarded to Miss Virginia Groves, Miss Mary Slasher and Miss Gene Meng. Chicken thieves later looted William Simpson’s Third Street home, prompting calls for law and public action to deter such depredations.

Middleton Bank receiver inventory and court actions
At the adjourned April term of the circuit court held in Lexington on June 22, Charles Lyons as receiver for the Middleton Bank of Waverly filed an inventory. The court allowed various set offs and granted permission to Union National Bank of Kansas City and Mechanics American National Bank of St. Louis to sue the receiver. Jono B. Gordon was named to the Missouri School for the Deaf Board of Managers, succeeding 4. N. Wilson. Gordon, previously active in county politics as a Polk supporter, is congratulated on the appointment.
