Public School Commencement Prington's Free Educational Institutions Close a Most Successful School Year
The Lexington public schools report a prosperous year with additions to the high school and new ward facilities. Enrollment reached 1,228 with 1,008 average daily attendance. total staff includes 22 teachers and 2 substitutes. The board highlights $100,000 property value and debt nearing $35,000, plus a per pupil cost of about 5 cents. A school entertainment at the opera house featured songs, solos, and a large graduating ceremony led by Dr. W. H. Black.

Pupils of Douglas school held commencement Thursday night with a program of drills recitations songs and orations. Rev Woolrich gave a brief sensible talk to the class. The entertainment was the best the school ever gave and reflected credit on Prof Greer and assistants. Lexington is doing much for the education of its Negro children. Supt Patterson presented diplomas to grammar and high school graduates.
