Lexington Elks Win Again In Local Heavyweight Clash

Higginsville Eagles and Lexington Elks battled nine innings at Oneida Pavilion with Brockman twirling for Lexington and Bunch for Higginsville. Elks win on points 4 to 1 as Sheriff Kinkead homers and both teams commit errors amid a slow pitching duel. Local notes cover August meeting, community visits, and town news.

Cutting Affair Leaves Wounds At Crawford Laundry

James Verden made a sudden assault Thursday afternoon with a large knife near Crawford's laundry, inflicting a three inch scalp wound and a neck wound about half an inch from the jugular. Marshall Price arrested him and he was bound over to Justice J J Harding. He was released until Wednesday. Conway of St Louis visited the Young family Wednesday evening.

Lafayette County Fair Set To Draw Big Crowds

Lafayette County Fair at Higginsville August 4 7 8 promises the greatest event of its kind in the region with six uniformed K of P companies and four brass bands, cash prizes totaling 400, and a grand parade led by Knights of Pythias on Wednesday. Eastern horses entered, Day's Land of Lexington providing music, plus hall games, agricultural and art exhibits, popcorn and lemonade drawing Lexington residents.

Playgrounds Picnic Brings Large Crowd And Children Events

A Thursday Playgrounds basket picnic drew a larger crowd than expected. After a supper, two basketball games and a girls game were played, Lexington Lambasters winning 10 to 1 and Lexington Sters 2 to 0. Children’s races followed, then acrobats performed before the picnic closed.

Death of William A Hill in Holden

A telephone message says William A Hill died Thursday afternoon at 6730 after a long ill health from cancer of the liver. He moved to Holden eight years ago to work as a barber and was well liked for his skill and good nature. He was 48 and survived by a widow three brothers and two sisters. Funeral was in Holden yesterday at five with burial in Hollen cemetery.

Barber Shop Sold to Roach and Williamson

Bred A. Wilson acting for William A. Hill sold Thursday the Hill barber shop to Pat Roach and John Williamson. They will take charge immediately and continue the business. The deal occurred before Hill's death to avoid probate court proceedings.
