Rogers Reappointed High ly Engineer and County Proceedings
The county court held a major session with routine and road district funding actions. Special road commissioners were appointed for Concordia Waverly Odessa No 2 Wellington and others. The poll tax was set at 4 dollars. The semi annual treasurer’s report was approved. Jurors were drawn for April term. St Paul vs Wentworth basketball game canceled due to temperature. Wentworth beat Kemper and Missouri Military Academy at Mexico. Wentworth leads Missouri Conference. Wentworth Reserves beat High School 32 to 16. Fire at W T Skinner residence on North 10th street extinguished.

Death of Miss Kathryn Summers
Miss Kathryn Summers died at 1 30 Saturday morning at her parents’ home in Higginsville. Born December 1891 on a Higginsville farm, she was 27. A popular figure in Lexington, she formerly worked for the Higginsville Jeffersonian. Survived by parents John T Summers and six brothers and two sisters. Funeral to be held Monday at 9 in the Catholic church in Higginsville.

Sinking of Tuscania Transport Claims 267 American Lives
The British transport Tuscania was torpedoed off Ireland with 2179 U S soldiers aboard and 267 killed. Troops listed include Headquarters Detachment and Companies D I FP of the 20th Engineers, 107th Engineer Train, 107th Military Police, 107th Supply Train, 150th and 158th Air Squadrons, 213th Replacement Detachments Nos 1 and 2 of the 32nd Division, and 51 casual officers. Most soldiers were from Wisconsin and Michigan. Capt. Ben Hoge, now in Europe on Maj. Gen. Townsley staff, known for his prior service at Fort Meyer, is mentioned. General officers select their own aides, highlighting Townsley’s choice.

Personal property includes horses mules colts cows yearlings brood sows shoats and farm implements. The bill of sale will be distributed on or about February 15. Maj R E Ashurst announces. Maj R P Palmer has transferred to the Signal Corps 4th Division and is stationed at Camp Green South Carolina. Mrs Palmer resides in Clarinda Iowa.

Misa Agnes Hamilton of Central College left for St Joseph on Friday after the death of her father Dr W B Hamilton aged 86. He was a pioneer Richmond Missouri physician and is survived by four sons and three daughters.

Dwelling Destroyed by Fire on 20th Street
About 7 o'clock Friday night a six room house owned by John Reeder on 20th street burned completely. The fire started in the kitchen and by the time found it had gained great headway. T. L. Ward occupied the insured or uninsured. A nearby small frame house owned by Julius Winkler was damaged.

Fire destroys garage and sheds on College Street
A garage owned by Roscoe Sheets on College Street burned Friday night around 10 o clock and was completely destroyed with its contents including a Ford Truck. Several small sheds owned by D D Gwinner were also destroyed. insurance will cover part of the loss.

Criminal Court adjourns for murder case docket
Judge Rich presided during an adjourned December term session. Three murder trials were set: James Scott for the April 10 killing of William Brown, Frank Jennings for the April 15 killing of Pleas Short, and Walter McFadin for the April 22 killing of Herndon Trail. The local boards remained in effect.
