The soldiers beat the cadets 84 to 23 in a Monday night game at Lee's Summit. Lutworth scored 14 by halftime as Cook and Rody starred with seven baskets each. Referee A W Clemens officiated the fast and often rough contest.
Anne Warrensburg Training squad played at Ay night against cadets and won 46 to 30 after a balanced first half tied 14 to 14. In the second half Warrensburg pulled away, outscoring the cadets 32 to 16. Independence later hosted Wentworth’s team, with Independence losing 42 to 14.
Wentworth basketball team led by Jim beat Sedalia Y M A 28 to 4 in Sedalia Wednesday night. Next game faces Park College at Amy gym Monday night.
About one thousand claims to the district board on AP 41 have been certified back to the local board. Of these, 34 were placed in class 1, three were deferred classification on cultural claims, one on minerals, and three on dependency.
A letter from Rome praised Lexington public school pupils for sewing surgical dressings and pillows for Italian soldiers. Sixth to eighth graders at Central School sent items via David Willard of the National Surgical Dressings Committee. He urged continued work and gauze, pillows, and elborests to aid wounded troops.
The Tuesday class of Red Cross workers held a silver tea Tuesday afternoon with receipts near 35 dollars, to fund supplies for ongoing work. William Morrison and sister Miss Elizabeth attended with Miss Elizabeth English, N. E. Baskett and W. R. VanAnglen, who traveled to Kansas City yesterday morning for the motor show.
Mrs Margaret Schultze died Tuesday at 5 30 AM at 1028 8 W Boulevard from old age. She was born September 4 1836 in Neiderhausen Germany and aged 81. She leaves son Herman Schultze and daughter Mrs Patrick McDonald. Funeral at German Methodist Church conducted by Rev E Crepin. Charles W Thomas from Kansas City found dead Saturday in Mark's Hotel room of hemorrhage. Funeral held Monday at A J Thomas's Orange Street home. Burial in Warrensburg.
W M A purchases E B Vaughan property from Laurence GC Peak who traded a 28 acre suburban residence for Vaughan on Washington Ave. Private terms. Peak then sold Vaughan property to Wentworth Military Academy. Taubman handled both deals and recently sold Mrs M C McFadin residence for 2900 to Elizabeth Coen and a 20th street residence to Vince Owen for 1100.
Ollie Donohoe a two week employee at Hinesley’s Restaurant forged Mr Hinesley’s name to a check on Saturday night and had it cashed at Boldridge barber shop. The forgery was discovered as he boarded a train at Myrick. He was brought to Lexington and jailed.
The friends of Hubert W. Field learned that Companies D BE F of the 20th Engineers were aboard the ill fated Tuscania when she was torpedoed and sunk. Company C stayed at Camp University near Washington. Richard B. Lewis, ill with pneumonia, was operated on at the German hospital in Kansas City. The operation was successful and he is improving. He traveled to Kansas City with his wife, his brother-in-law Walter B. Waddell, and Dr A M Chaliley.
Mrs. R. L. Webb of Waverly, Mo notes a Kansas City meeting on February 23 in the Association’s rooms to discuss changing the Old Trails Route. She argues the old trail is the pioneer route used by Missourians in 1848 49, following rivers and passing Rocheport Arrow Rock and Waverly.
Robert P Richardson of Clint Texas died in El Paso on Wednesday February 13 and was buried there. He was 42. Formerly a Lexington resident, he is survived by his sister Miss Margaret Richardson who lived with him.
Public sale set for Monday February 25 1918 of all personal property on the Shull home farm seven miles south of Lexington on the Columbus road. Items include horses mules colts cows yearling calves brood sows shoats and farm implements. Bill to be distributed on or about February 165. R BE ASHURST.
A marriage license has been issued to James Miller and Lexington Violet McAlester. The couple appears on the official records as newly licensed spouses.
Mrs. G. D. Thatch went to Kansas City Friday to attend the death of her nephew William Veach who died Thursday night. Carl O. Dahl enlisted in the U.S. Cavalry yesterday and left Wednesday for Jefferson Barracks. Walter Hughes enlisted in the Signal Corps of the U.S. Army and left Thursday morning for Jefferson Barracks.
John Shotliff died Sunday afternoon at 1 45 at his daughter Miss N I Shotliff 82614 Mainstreet after a year of declining health. Born June 26 1826 in Donington Lincolnshire England he came to America in 1850 and to Lexington in 1911 to live with his daughter. Survived by two sons and two daughters I W Shottiff Southwest Missouri J R Shottiff St. Louis Mrs E F Crumm and Miss N I Shotliff of Lexington. Body to Neosho Missouri for burial with two daughters accompanying. Resolutions of the Woman's Christian Temperance Union praise the late Mrs Eliza G Hye for her Christian life and service and note her sound judgment devotion to duty and gentle voice.
The partition sale held Wednesday before the courthouse saw W V Curtis buy the South street home for 3150, Mrs L B Shelby acquire the Odessa property for 1170, Curtis and N T Wilcox purchase the 114 acre rock bridge tract for 480, and B C Gordon secure the Highland Ave property for 395. Mrs D. FY Manning of Marshall arrived Saturday for a visit with her daughter Miss Mildred Manning. Mrs P. W Thompson went to Odessa Saturday called by illness of her brother in law A Sandusky. Mrs J H Noyes went to Kansas City Saturday with her son Harriet. Mr and Mrs Wilmot Kenney with Mrs Matthew Kenney visited Kansas City. Mrs J A Scarlett and daughter Josephine went to Brecken Saturday to visit relatives.

Mordecai Chambers U S Marines in Cuba to his parents describes health improvements after rough days, kitchen improvisations with bananas and bread, and life near the mountains. He notes scenic hikes, bright moonlit nights, and readiness routine at 6:30 am. He mentions fuel shortages elsewhere and blessings of local comforts.
Rev T M Cobb conducted the funeral for Rev Griffith who died Wednesday morning at 10 o clock. Griffith had resided in the Confederate Home for fifteen years.
Mr and Mrs Irvin Menaugh announce the birth of a son Irvin Jr born Sunday February 10 1918 in a local hospital. The child joins the family as the couple’s first son and adds a family namesake.
