Robert E. Rogers was convicted of assault with attempt to kill after a Monday start and Tuesday verdict. The jury imposed a $100 fine after the evening reconvening at 7 o'clock. Fire damages Highland Avenue residence minor blaze
The afternoon fire at Albert Gillen's home on Highland Avenue started from a chimney spark and burned through shingles and sheeting. The fire company arrived promptly and extinguished the blaze with chemicals, causing very slight damage compared with a water-based suppression.

Otto Walkenhorst Dies Sudden ly
Otto Walkenhorst prominent Concordia resident and Justice of the Peace of Freedom township was found dead in bed Sunday night. Funeral held Wednesday at 2 PM. Ralph Johnson and his brother Warren traveled to Kansas City. Warren recently wounded in a gunshot incident is near full recovery. Mrs. L F Evans and children from Independence arrived to spend holidays with Judge and Mrs. Richard Field.

Roscoe C. Sheets reopened Sheets' Cafe after a three month fire loss. The rebuilt building is thoroughly remodeled and painted with up-to-date fixtures and a modern soda fountain. The restaurant will operate with home made candy as its specialty and drawn steady crowds from 7 to 10:30 p.m. Each guest received a carnation.
Judge McCausland Celebrates 87th Birthday at Store
Judge W. G. McCausland marked his 87th birthday by carrying on his daily store duties. Though advanced in years he remains one of the town’s youngest merchants in spirit and is valued for his progressive stance and wide regard among all segments of the community.

Friday in the criminal court Albert Snell pleaded guilty to larceny and received three months in jail with parole. James Stewart admitted to obtaining money by false checks and was sentenced to two years in the penitentiary with parole. Curt Lay pled guilty to grand larceny and received a Wednesday sentencing in the criminal court. Earl Neece pleaded guilty to assault with intent to kill and faced a two year penitentiary term. State v James Fitzgerald petit larceny resulted in 80 days in jail after Judge Rich heard the evidence.
