Hawks and hawks in a Maine poultry tale of thieves and honesty
In a rural port town a Captain and Postmaster recount a fable of hawks stealing chickens and eggs, some honest and some thieves. A pirate hawk eats eggs after stealing hens, while another hawk shells out a few eggs before starving. The tale ends with a truce: birds must live, and the community tolerates the hawks as part of nature.
