Hiram Jackson Groves Dead After Wound Poisoning
Hiram Jackson Groves died at the German hospital in Kansas City from wound infection weeks after being shot in the hip. The Lexington editor and former Missouri journalist Groves, born July 6 1871 near Lexington, built a long career at the Intelligencer and Times before joining the Post as managing editor.

Circuit court action yields mixed results and long jury lists
Tuesday in circuit court featured routine work and several juries. A verdict favored the plaintiff in Grumpke vs Stoener for 30.50. Another jury heard Campbell vs Vhas Eighinger for damages from a swauk with witnesses from Odtasa and a partial day of testimony. Early adjournment followed a neighborhood dispute in the Kigbinger War case and a few divorce matters were tabled.

The body of James Keith who died in California Friday was brought here for burial Thursday. Keith was born in Lexington and spent his early years here. He was years of age. The funeral was held from the Methodist church yesterday morning. Accompanying the body from Kansas City were Robert and Thomas Keith, brothers. Mrs Virginia Lee. Miss Lee. Mr Irwin Bigger. dre. Henry Koehler. and Mr and Mrs W Basting. Dr G W Hyde returned from Hannibal City yesterday.

Death of James C. McGrew II at age three in悲
James C. McGrew II, only child of Mr. and Mrs. James C. McGrew Jr., died Wednesday at home from uremic poisoning after diphtheria and measles illnesses. Born October 26, 1904, he was three years, one month, and eight days old. The family mourns amid separation due to diphtheria risk as parents remain ill. Funeral held Wednesday at 3 PM with simple graveside rites conducted by Rev. R.K.S. Briney at Machpelah Cemetery.

The Elks home memorial exercises Sunday afternoon drew a crowded lodge room with high quality music and well delivered readings. Dr C E Pattillo preached a scholarly sermon and Rev Frank W Allen gave a thoughtful address before a large Odessa audience. Several brothers were honored, and several members listed as absent were remembered. Misses Alice and May Peak returned from Kansas City after a several days stay.

In Dover the county court denied Edward Doge nelly a saloon license after a heated vote, remonstrators holding a four vote majority. The session handled routine matters including printing contracts, tax law reconsideration, road and bridge funding transfers, constable appointment, and other county business. The court also toured the poor farm.

Mrs Maud Talbot Atterbery, widow of Mr Butler Talbot, died suddenly in Panama where she and her husband had lived for six months. The couple married in this city last summer and moved to Panama where her husband joined the government service. She was formerly Miss Maud Talbot and was a prominent singer in this city and Kansas City.
