High School student notes show growing interest in track with Captain Curnutt guiding W. M. A. runners. The team aims to compete in Columbia on May 7 as selection heats up. The Seniors are practicing for a entertainment at the High School auditorium on Tuesday night April 19. Each member has been sparing no pains in preparing a good program and something good can be expected. The comedy drama The Obstinate will be the principal feature of the evening's entertainment. Tickets will be 25 and 35 cents.
An early morning blaze at BE. S. Moorman's grocery store was reported around 5:15 yesterday. V. J. Bour discovered the fire and alerted neighbors as fire fighters quickly contained the flames. Damage was extensive, mainly from smoke and water.
Word came Monday morning of the death of Mrs D H Blodgett at St Marys hospital at 12 15. She had been ill briefly and was taken to Kansas City three weeks ago for relief. Formerly Miss Veneta Summers daughter of Mrs S M Summers of this city. Age 27. A devoted wife and member of the Christian church. Survived by her husband.
D H Blodgett sister of Mrs S M Summers and mother Mrs Summers, five brothers and a sister are named. The funeral from Mrs Summers home on Lafayette Street Tuesday at 2 30 p m was led by Rev R B Binney of the Christian church. Interment was in Machpelah.
Miss Lucy May Payne entertained 30 young ladies at 1007 South Street on Wednesday for Miss Mayme Johnson, who wed J. R. Sydnor next Thursday. Guests shaped dust cloths for the bride, while refreshments featured heart motifs and a large cake with miniature bride and groom. The Lexington College recital followed, praising Miss Cora Greenwade and Misses Martha Stewart and Gussie Stealy for varied, polished performances including Beethoven, Sinding, and Schubert works.
August J Mayer of this city died Tuesday morning at 6 oclock at his Highland avenue home from gastritis. Born August 12 1865 in Maa voutah Illinois he was 44. He came to Lexington twenty five years ago and married Katherine Gavin November 26 1891. Survived by wife and five sons William Leo Dennis Fred and August J Sr two brothers Charles Lexington Ferdinand Mascontah Illinois and one sister Mrs William Kareh Mascontih. He was a member of the Redmen Turners and Eagles. Catholic church services Wednesday at 2:30 pm.
A fire alarm sounded around 4 am Tuesday at Joe Schaal's East Lexington home. Firefighters could not reach the fire plug, and the occupants extinguished the blaze with very little damage reported. Other brief notes include James Drummond in Higginsville on business and Miss Ella Nickell traveling to Kansas City.
Lafayette County Medical Association gathered Tuesday in Lexington for an engaging session. Attending physicians included Ott Porter Braecklein Migging ville Barkley Clayton Odesea Harwood Dover Mann Wellington Lockwood Butler Frick Kansas City. Papers were read by Drs. Lockwood and Frick before members viewed a Princess moving picture on the fly pest.
E C Buck of Waverly spent Wednesday night in Lexington on business. Lafayette Gordon, visiting here, returned to St Louis Tuesday morning. Mr and Mrs John Skinner returned Tuesday from a short visit in St Louis, Mrs E B Forster who was visiting her son J M Forster returned home in Sweet Springs.
