State Board Fixes Taxes on Railroad Property

State Board of Equalization, by a 3 to 2 vote, refused to raise most railroad assessments in the state. Northern Pacific and Great Northern lines were increased to 500 per mile. Pacific Idaho Northern reduced to 3500 per mile. Western Union telegraph assessed at 608 per mile for first wire, plus minor changes. County levies listed. Blaine and Canyon counties plan suit to raise railway assessments, joined by several others. Governor Hunt, Secretary Basset, Treasurer Plummer opposed the raise. Attorney General Martin and Auditor Jones supported it.

Congregational Church Suit Heard in Lewiston Court

Judge Steele from Moscow heard arguments in Lewiston in the national conference of the Congregational church versus the church trustees. The dispute centers on a lot and church house at Seventh and Main street valued around 5000 dollars. Judge took the matter under advisement. Attorneys Johnson and Smith for the plaintiff and B ONeill for the defendants appeared.

Nez Perce teachers institute closes with resolutions

The county teachers institute in Lewiston adjourns after lectures on Civil Government and Horace Mann. Resolutions praise county superintendent Jennie Robnett, President Knepper, and others, thank Lewiston district for facilities, and urge continued institute work. A local chimney fire near the court house was quickly extinguished. Henry Fair filmed mountain views in the Clearwater.

Peck Fair Attracts Exhibits And Entertainment In October

Thomas Kirby of Peck scouts fruit and mineral displays for the Peck Fair with a premier Nez Perce grain exhibit tied with ribbon for Idaho at the St Louis world’s fair. Roos and Brown plan to move a merry go round to Peck and the Fort Lapwai Industrial school Indian band will perform a war dance. The carnival like fair aims for 3000 visitors across October 5 9 and 16 with trips organized from Clearwater short Line to Lewiston and Vineland fair grounds.

Death of Miss Lizzie Thompson at Montrose Colorado

Miss Lizzie Thompson, 27, daughter of R. T. Thompeson, died of typhoid fever in Montrose Colorado after a visit while east for eye treatment. Her remains will be brought to Lewiston for interment. Also notes Nez Perce county ranks second in Idaho equalized land values led by Latah and Ada counties. Miss Dilla Boyd visits Lewiston from Lenore.

Hon Avery C Moore traveled from Moscow to White Bird Idaho to assess mining prospects in Camas Prairie and Dixie districts. He praised ore yields and future development while noting his Democratic bid and potential race against Burton French, a Republican nominee.

Oliver returns from Boece trip to Grangeville farm

EK W Oliver, a delegate from Idaho County, visited Boise and returned to his Grangeville home. He is a substantial farmer who owns a 960 acre farm near Grangeville. His season yield included about 700 tons of timothy hay sold on his farm at eight dollars per ton.

Little Joe Rigs Hurt in Horse Accident

Three year old Joey Riggs son of Gen. D. Riggs sustained a spine injury after a fall from a horse. He arrived in the city this week with his parents from their Waha home and is under medical treatment for partial paralysis of the lower limbs.

Ferry Breaks Loose During Wheat Load Crossing

A ferry broke from its cables while crossing the first load of wheat at Bank on Monday and drifted about a mile down the Clearwater. The vessel was recovered and reinstalled in its position yesterday.
