Nittert Aalfs, 73, of Sioux City, suffered undetermined injuries Saturday in a freak traffic accident involving a circus wagon and two automobiles. A nurse at Methodist hospital said his condition was fairly good. The rear wheel of a circus unit reportedly veered from a Steuben Street area, colliding with a parked car and pushing another eastbound into Aalfs’s vehicle. Aalfs was taken to the hospital by Capt. Paul Mummert and Patrolman Raymond Stewart.

Born May 2 1889 in Merl he was a machinist for Alberton & Co in Siena City. Survived by widow Annie Jensen married December 13 1921 in Merrill two brothers Fred Merrill two sisters Lillian Hill Ceylon Minnesota and Clara Lesperaince Chicago and a grandson. He belonged to the American Legion Merrill and Machinists union No 1426 Sioux City and was a World War I veteran. He was son of Nat Hammond and died after life with six brothers and three sisters precede him in death.

The Sunday fire at about 16 a.m. partially destroyed a grocery store attached to the McClains home in Akron. Fire chief Bill Blankenburg said the store hadn’t been open recently.
