If moisture is not restored by government action or heavy rainfall, parts of the Big Sioux and Missouri River valleys may sink further, potentially allowing river water to fill shortages.

Clarence Frank Dies From Self-Inflicted Gun Wound
Clarence Frank 56 lifelong Remsen businessman died at Sacred Heart hospital Le Mars at 5 30 p m Saturday September 22 from a self inflicted gunshot. He was found in his living room with a .22 rifle beside him. He had separated from his wife and lived alone leaving a wife Celeste, two sons Joseph and Tom, and a daughter Mary Jean MecNeff. Survivors include his mother and five brothers. Funeral services will be at St Marys church Remsen with burial in Remsen Cemetery.

Lester Nitzschke and three other Remsen men were injured in a two car crash near Red Wood Falls Minnesota while en route to a fishing trip to Spicer. Roy Munass, an 18 year old member of the Remsen Ramblers 4-H Club, won first place in the Beef Showmanship contest at the Sioux City Interstate 4-H Show, beating twenty other exhibitors. Dean Bealicu of the Perry Sharpshooters finished fifth. Plymouth County entrants included Terry Kloster, Martene and Mary Lou Vondrak, Jeannette Wolf, and Larry Dontin. C D Crawford died in Poway via Sioux City hospital on September 19 after a long illness. Born February 19, 1873 in Allen County Ohio, he moved to Hawarden, married Annie Bultman in 1901, farmed near Merrill for about 30 years, then moved to Sioux City in 1955. Survived by widow and four daughters, thirty grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, three sisters, three brothers, and many relatives. Funeral was held at St. John’s Lutheran Church Merrill with burial at Memorial Park Cemetery Sioux City. grandsons Jack Gene Dean Crawford Michiel Dallen Darrell Peters Gerald Bucy served as casket bearers.

Clement Graham, 75, a former Perry Township resident, died Tuesday at his Everett Washington home after several months of illness. He suffered a heart attack last March. Survivors include his widow Viola, two sons Vincent and Duane at home, a daughter Mrs. James Enright of Sioux City, five grandchildren, six brothers Walter Seattle Earl Merrill Arthur Howard and twin Claude all of Sioux City, and Leo of Perry Township. Funeral services were Saturday with burial in an Everett cemetery.
