Baby Killed When Door Flies Open In Truck Cab
Johnny Rubland three years old of Staunton township died after the right cab door opened on a county road four miles south of Lincoln Catholic church. Francis Ruhland tried to grab the boy but the child fell out as a dual wheel passed over his head crushing the skull. The accident occurred around noon today. The funeral is set for 9 am Wednesday at St Joseph's church Lincoln township with burial in the church cemetery. Reverend Hoffman to conduct the mass. The boy would have turned three on October 17. Surviving are the mother Doris Tentinger of Remsen, the father Francis Ruhland, a sister Renee, maternal grandparents Mrs William Tentinger of Remsen and paternal grandparents Mr and Mrs John Ruhland. The body was taken to Wiltgen Luedtke funeral home in Le Mars. County Coroner H. Luken and Sheriff Frank Scholer investigated.

A single car crash occurred on Highway 78 three miles north of Merrill on Thursday afternoon when Edward Osterkamp in a 1951 Ford attempting to reach Le Mars around 12:30 p.m. struck a barricade, though police later said no barricade existed. Damages totaled about $100 to the Osterkamp car. An intersection crash at First Ave and Think Street involved Irene Row in a $953 Plymouth and Verna Williams in a Studebaker, causing $94 to the Williams front end and minor damage to Row’s rear.
