Scientists at radio KLEM note Le Mars received .59 inches of rain Tuesday night into Wednesday. record temperatures show Monday high 84 and low 41, Tuesday 77/43, Wednesday 43/41, with Thursday morning 41.
Miss Abtrich daughter of Mr and Mrs Wilbur Abtrich of Le Mars will wed Mare Chapman son of Mr and Mrs Marion Chapman. A surprise shower was hosted by Mrs Emmet Black and Mrs Melvin Koerner at the Abtrich home and a later dinner was held by Mrs Oaken with aunts Mrs Andy Oaken and Mrs Silas Siege. Guests included Miss Merry Eileen Chapman of Milwaukee.
On September 14 Judge T E Klay signed an order dismissing the petition to revoke parole in the State of Iowa versus Ronald C. Davis. The order states the county attorney's petition was unsupported and evidence was insufficient, leading the court to dismiss the petition.
Charles Guth 81 a retired businessman and longtime Kingsley assessor died at home after a long illness. Funeral services set for 10 30 am Friday at Congregational church with Rev Harding Weigel and Rev Evergett Major officiating. Burial in Kingsley cemetery under Dicki von funeral home direction. Guth born November 14 1877 in Lowden. Moved to Kingsley at 13 and worked in grain elevator and livestock business before purchasing Edmund Shade Co. in 1912, which operated until 1929. Appointed assessor in 1934, held position until 1955. Survived by widow Fee Dunaway and two daughters.
Free chest X rays are offered by the Health Department and the TB Association. The mobile unit will be at a street east of the Mayor's office on Thursday Friday and Saturday. A later Globe-Post note mentions the Clark Brothers Contraction Company reunion at Riverside Park and Le Mars campaign volunteers planning a fundraising drive to underwrite a $15,000 college operating budget.
Two hundred seventy seven Westmar College students in upper classes registered all day Wednesday September 16 in the Charles Mack Library. The library buzzed with forms, advisor approvals, yearbook photos, and business office completion as 525 students enroll this fall, including 185 freshmen and 50 transfers or returning students from a semester or longer absence. Students come from 20 states and 2 foreign countries after admission by the Admissions Committee.
State court fines included Don Bungner Dickens for failure to control 20 dollars, Jere miah Barry Jr of Sioux City for night speed 14 dollars, and Irvin Van Wart Ottwsen for truck speed 14 dollars. City cases listed Mrs. Robert Kilker 12.50 for failing to yield after a Le Mars collision, and Gundes Paulson Armstrong for running a stop sign 10 dollars.
A county attorney in Le Mars filed a preliminary information against William Marko for bigamy. He allegedly married Kathryn Doud while still married to Helen Lea Marko. The Globe Post earlier printed a story about Marko and a woman claiming to be his first wife and a 17 year old son. The case hinges on proving a legal divorce from Helen Lea Marko. Marko worked for Henkels Construction Co installing wiring for new dial phones in Le Mars.
James Warrender of the U S Soil Conservation Service was assigned to the Plymouth Conservation District and completed a three week course in soil and water conservation. He was among 15 men from 7 states and 2 foreign countries at the Hydrologic Research Station near Coshocton Ohio. The program covered all phases of soil land water conservation to better enable them to perform duties upon return.
Mr and Mrs John Gottas of Le Mars celebrate their twenty fifth wedding anniversary with an open house at the Eagles Hall on Saturday September 26 from noon to 5 pm. Friends and relatives are invited to call, and an anniversary dance will follow in the evening.
An youth dance and party will be held at the Armory at 9:00 p.m. Friday September 18 to introduce semi leaders to local youth and connect them with business leaders. A Model 5 Linotype for the Globe-Post teletypesetter system was delivered last week and set up for installation of the robot operator. The obsolescent model was junked. parts from Globe-Post’s Model 14 linotype were cannibalized to improve the new unit. The robot will be attached when available and will cast 944 paint slugs with a 9 point type for easier reading, using a unit-based system.
Peru State Teachers College meets Westmar College in Le Mars Iowa Saturday night to start the 1959 football season. It will be the Bobcats first non Nebraska Conference foe this year and the second meeting after last year’s 14 to 0 Peru win.
The local Council of Church Women reported a call issued after a Washington visit by Church representatives to President Eisenhower. Dr E T Dahlberg, president of the National Council of Churches, urged churches nationwide to prayerfully seek God’s guidance for lasting peace and justice among all peoples.
Mr and Mrs Walter Bogen return from West Des Moines where they visited daughter and son in law Mrs Kody Berg in Coon Rapids. They met Mr Russell Smith who noted preparations for Khrushchev visit at a nearby farm and mentioned telephone company work installing lines to the farm home.
The Le Mars business and professions women’s club met on Tuesday evening to plan National Business Women’s Week observances on October 4. Final plans were set for a community chest drive in the business district, ahead of the regular drive. Jean Koenig chaired the public slains committee with Morhel Callias and Christing McCormack presenting the promo. Pave beat Shell bowis discussed a census panel and questions to ask, forms to use, and workers needed to conduct the census. Pile Ener, president, presided over the meeting with legislative remarks by Hime With and chief Neuh rand.
Local officials seek J D Tucker amid resurfacing work worries as he vanished with 3000 dollars for materials. Referred by Peterson Motor Co of Storm Lake, he faced fraud allegations in Le Mars. A criminal charge may follow. whereabouts and equipment vanished.
A new Westman College football stadium will be dedicated on September 26 at the Westman College site during a football game with Gragedand College. Officials from Westman, Le Mars Central Public High School, and Le Mars Gielen Parochial School along with community representatives will attend the ceremony, after an earlier notice that the dedication would occur on September 19 was changed.
In district court yesterday two divorce petitions were filed. Alona Willer sues Francis J Willer seeking divorce and custody of their six year old daughter Debra. Patricia Ann Schulz sues Alvin G Schulz seeking custody for their two children Carmen Michelle and Dawn Renee. Local visitors Mr and Mrs John Gustason and son Johnnie from San Diego, California are visiting Le Mars with Dr and Mrs F C Bendixen.
Five Merrill youths charged with a string of petty thefts in and near Merrill will face juvenile court this afternoon. Deputies report two youths are in county jail while the others are assigned to probation officers after being picked up near Merrill. The group, once together and skipping school, allegedly broke into Jones Grocery and took food, candy, and clothing over more than a week.
A community notice lists new car dealers and owners including Lyre Brockman Ver te Marineau and Anthony Hronillette with Chevrolet and Ford models in Akron Le Mars Merrill and Le Mars. An open house for Mr and Mrs Walter Schluter at the Legion Hall in Eagle Lake Mine is set for Sunday September 27 from 2 to 5 pm with relatives and friends invited.
Joseph and Joe M. Roden observe their 43rd anniversary this Saturday Sept 10 at St Catherine's Church in Ovens. They were wed Sept 0 916 and farmed near Ovens until retirement in Le Mars. The couple had 32 children, 11 living, plus 39 grandchildren. among descendants are Silvins Harold Ray Toe dr Fidon Tom Cy dod Jeanne and Walter who was killed in service.
William Karley aged 90 is shown at his daughter Mrs Cars me Swisher’s home in Hinton. An open house was held Sunday September 20 from 2 to 3 pm to honor him. Card invites were issued and friends and relatives were welcome. Karley, formerly of Merill, now resides with his daughter, with sons Eimerley of Morning Side and Winter Karley of Leeds. He is pictured with his Globe-Post and praises the new larger type in upcoming editions.
This week at the clerks office Oldendorf af Marens and Doris JoAnn Dirks of Le Mars received marriage licenses. Also licensed were Rueben Borchers and Rosetta Beitel spacher, both of Sioux City.
Mr and Mrs John Wilken announce open house on their 28th wedding anniversary September 27 at St Johns Lutheran Church Preston Township from 240 to 530 pm Friends and relatives are invited no invitations sent. West Des Moines patrolman Duane Terpenning testified in a motor truck accident at Windsor Heights where a gasoline laden trailer overturned spilling hundreds of gallons into a ditch the truck tandem broke loose and the trailer lay on its side while awaiting assistance. The Globe-Post also notes a Robin Hood coupon worth 28 cents good December 37, 1959.
Engaged Mr and Mrs Ross Mallette announce the engagement of their daughter Janice Marlene to Robert Remer son of Mr and Mrs George Remer of Le Mars The couple plan to wed in the spring A marriage license was issued to Donald E Kennedy 21 of Cor Tectionville and Dorothy A Plendil 19 of Le Mars at the Woodbury County Courthouse
