Don Reilly farm four miles south of Merrill on highway 75 saw a large barn destroyed by a lightning strike at 4 a.m. Sunday. Fire departments saved the home nearby, about .35 inch of rain aided containment, estimated loss $10,000 covered by insurance, hog barn saved, livestock unharmed.
A district court judge signed an order of commitment for contempt and issued a warrant for Arnold W Feaute's arrest in the divorce case Feaute v Feaute. The record shows a July 1958 divorce and a $20 weekly support obligation for three minor children in the mother's custody, which the plaintiff has failed to uphold.
Mr and Mrs D L Mitchells celebrate forty years of marriage with an open house on Sunday September 27 in their Ireton home from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. They were wed September 24, 1919 in Sioux County. The couple raised four children Elmer Degner Lois in California Walter in California Neva Marienau in Ireton and Keith in Akron. They have eighteen grandchildren.
Harry Lueck and William Der stem as Lueck and Derstem filed suit for 578.80 against Ivan Clark doing business as Evan's Feed Service. The petition states a check was issued to the plaintiffs and presented at Kingsley Bank where payment was refused.
Linda J Johnson died unexpectedly Tuesday at University Hospitals Iowa City after a short illness. Services were Friday at Peace Lutheran Church Marcus. She would have been in second grade this year. Born November 9 1959 in Marcus. Survived by parents Roy and Linda Johnson sister Betty and brothers Vernon Wayne and John all at home and grandfather John Specht of Cleghorn.
The sheriffs office investigated a truck accident 21 miles south of Merris on Highway 75 at about 2:30 on Saturday. James Kock of Tri Mont Minnesota drove an empty truck owned by Ed Potter of Tri Mont when he struck the soft shoulder and overturned. After righting the truck he continued home. G E Kechimovs of Le Mars has enrolled as a senior at Weimar College this fall. Parents are Wm Kechimovs.
St James parish in Le Mars invites the public to an open house at the convent in the former Mike Wells home at 214 6th Ave. 5. W. on Sunday September 27 from 2 to p.m. The Sisters of Holy Humility will host and welcome callers.
The Rotary Club of Le Mars hosts Dr. Golden Thompson district governor of Rotary International on September 22. He will address the Le Mars club and confer with officers on administration and service activities. Thompson, dean of Westmar College, is a past president of the Le Mars club and has 24 years of civic activity.
Mrs. Leo Gollhofer of Kingsley announces the engagement of her daughter Kathleen to Oren Sawin son of Mr and Mrs Martin Sawin of Oto. An April 1 wedding is being planned.
A Sunday morning lightning bolt hit the Carel Connor farm house in Stanton township. The blast tore loose a fuse box from the REA service and knocked out telephone lines, though the home did not burn. The shower of rain that day totaled about a quarter inch. The smell of scorching materials suggested the near miss was close.
Iowa official says nonrecourse price support on wheat barley and grain sorghum is capped at 50,000 per person next year unless production is cut by up to 20 percent as determined by the Secretary of Agriculture. Surplus crops are targeted and borrowers must repay amounts over 36,000 within 12 months.

Mr and Mrs Andrew Kunkel of Oyens observe their fortieth wedding anniversary with open house at their home in Oyens on Sunday September 27 from 2 to 4 pm and with a family gathering. They were married Sept 27 1919 at St Josephs Church Le Mars. They farmed near Oyens before retiring to a new home in Oyens. The couple have seven children and all are planning to be present.
Two Plymouth County youths, Richard A. Stretinn of St. Joseph’s parish Le Mars and Jerome M. Loutsch of St. Catherine’s parish Oyens, were among six students of the Sioux City Catholic Diocese to receive orders from His Excellency Most Rev George J. Biskup at Mount Saint Bernard Seminary. Jerome Loutsch received the Minor Diaconate. Sitemann, a second year class, obtained Minor Orders of Porter and Lector.
Palmer twins Jerry and Terry, children of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Palmer, north of Seney, died at Sacred Heart hospital on September 18. Graveside rites were held September 19 at 9 a.m. at St. Joseph's cemetery. Lukens Funeral Home in charge. Father Patrick Noogey officiated. Survivors include parents, former Janice Hill, two brothers Donald and David, paternal grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Albert W. Palmer of Bayard, Iowa, and maternal grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Hill of Iona, Minnesota.

Charles J Schoenrock 83 farmer died at Sioux City hospital after long illness. Born June 23 1876 in Edisto, he lived south of Le Mars for decades. He married Fr Tobolt June 30 1909. Survived by two sons Walter Elden both of Le Mars. daughters Martha Long Merrill Harold Lang Le Mars and Mrs Wilfred Lahrs Hinton. sister Martha Sedker Sioux City. one grandson and one great grandson. Funeral 2 pm Monday Trinity Lutheran Lingeln township with Rev Calvin Hirm officiating. Burial in church cemetery. Funeral under Mauer Funeral Home direction.

Navy Chief Warrant Ollie Virreklo R Lawrence of Westfield Iowa serves aboard USNS Gen JC Breckinridge operating from San Francisco California. MSTS links NES and ATS to move personnel dependents and cargo to Pacific ports including Hawaii Okinawa Philippines Japan Korea and the Middle East.
A large barn burned four miles west of Orange City at Whinstley causing loss of ten calves 3000 bales of hay and additional straw and corn feed. A silo and other buildings were damaged but nearby crews stopped the spread toward a gasoline tank. Henry Bellespacher of Grant Township was arrested on a charge of in forfeiture and jailed by Justice of the Peace Gorton Bentinger.
County Superintendent Christine McCormick announced plans for the Tri County Teachers Institute to be held in Le Mars on Friday October 2 1959. About 650 teachers from Cherokee Plymouth and Woodbury Counties will attend with Friends of Education Westmar College students and faculty invited. The theme focuses on Techniques and Methods Involved in Teaching Subject Matter Areas across elementary and high school curricula. Twenty four instructors from Iowa colleges will teach. Dr Ray Bryan of Iowa State University will close with a talk at 4 45 p m. Bryan a Kansas native with degrees from Kansas State and the University of Nebraska has served Iowa State since 1947 and holds leadership roles in state and national education associations.
The Plymouth County council of teachers met September 16 at the Court House to discuss plans for a county wide get-together on October 14. Twenty members were present.
