Fall program and tea at 4-H building

The Family Living Committee of the Extension Service hosted a fall program and tea at 2 00 p m on September 7 in the girls 4 H building at the Fairgrounds. Ninety ladies from nineteen Plymouth County women clubs attended. Mrs Ellen Bryant chaired the event and welcomed guests, with Mrs Glen Gubel on piano and Mrs Roy Wright leading singing. A skit by the LeMars Mothers Club traced the extension program history. Miss Glada Riechert narrated the style show, keeping models moving with witty comments and descriptions. Clothing was borrowed from Le Mars businesses, whose cooperation was greatly appreciated.

Lawrence Vondra 71 retired farmer dies in Le Mars area

Lawrence Vondra 71 a retired farmer died unexpectedly Friday at his sister Mrs Elizabeth Baldes home. Funeral services 9 am Monday at St Joseph Catholic Church with Msgr J D Fisch officiating and burial in St Joseph cemetery Lincoln Township southeast of Le Mars. Rosary recited 8 8 pm Saturday and Sunday at Wittgen Luedtke funeral home. Born December 3 1884 in Kieler Wisconsin he farmed southeast of Le Mars before retiring and moving to Le Mars. Survivors include two sisters Mrs Louis Orman and Dora Vondra and a brother Charles all of Le Mars. Gerald Lee Hayden son of Mrs Percy Merritt of Le Mars enlisted in navy September 11 as airman recruit at Great Lakes.

KTIV Sioux City will premiere the film A Desk For Billie on September 27 at 3 30 p m as a public service arranged by local teachers. The National Education Association and state groups including the Iowa State Education Association co sponsored the project detailing Billie Davis life from hob o days in the 30s to a champion of education. National stations run premieres September 16 23 to honor public education while KVTV airs September 16 at 10 30 a m on Sunday.

The Gehlen J's face Carroll Kuemper in a big Thursday game on September 20. Gehlen beat Correctionville 21 to 0, while Kuemper lost 18 to 0 to Dowling of Des Moines last Sunday but showed strength. Westmar College Names New Art Instructor Johnson

Evert A. Johnson 1953 graduate of Morningside College has joined Westmar College as art instructor. He earned cum laude honors and a 1934 masters from the State University of Iowa. For two years he taught in Le Mars schools and active at the Sioux City Art Center. Janette Deedrich, former Sioux City resident, becomes supervisor of Koehler Hall for men, a 1926 Westmar graduate.

Two Akros Boys Die From Falling Bank Clods

Jimmie Eriske nine and Paul Eriske six, sons of Mr and Mrs Paul Friske of Akron, were killed instantly when large clods of earth fell from an overhanging bank in a ravine at their grandparents home eight miles west of Akron in Union County South Dakota. The coroner said the 14 foot cliff collapsed, causing almost immediate death, not by suffocation. The boys had been playing cops and robbers with three cousins when the bank gave way. The bodies were taken to Lewison funeral home in Akron. double services planned at Emmanuel Lutheran Church. Survivors include both parents, uncles and aunts.

Mrs Anne Goebel Dies In Omaha After Illness

Anna Goebel a former Le Mars resident died at her Omaha home on Saturday December 15 after two months of illness. She was born in Appleriver Wisconsin on April 4. New Coach Terry Knott Named At St Marys Remsen

Terry Knott, Lohrville High School coach for two years, is appointed basketball and baseball coach at St Marys Catholic High in Remsen for the coming school year. He succeeds Lou Galetich who resigned to take a similar post at Kuemper High in Carroll. Knott attended Buena Vista College, Storm Lake, class of 1980, served two years in the Army, coached at Lowne Training School in Eldora, then moved to Lohrville before heading to Remsen.

Westmar Opens 66th Year With Freshman Activities

Westmar College opened its 66th year as 4470 total enrollment stood at the start.
