Danish immigrant Niels Petersen dies at 68 in Le Mars
Niels Petersen of 434 1st Ave. W died Friday August 30 1957 after a five month illness. He was born October 7 1888 in Vaile Denmark and came to the United States at age seven, first settling in Omaha. He later moved to Le Mars retiring there, and was married to Elsie Kloster in 1916. Surviving are his widow a daughter Evalyn and a son Alvin. a brother in Denmark and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral Monday September 3 at St John’s American Lutheran church Le Mars. Burial in Remsen cemetery. The Moeller funeral home directed arrangements.

Funeral services for Mathias F. Klein Jr who died Thursday night were set for 9 30 a m Monday at St Mary Catholic church in Alton. He once ran the Log Cabin cafe and service station at Afton after birth in Granville Iowa on April 5 1896. He married Margaret Sueff in 1932 and was a member of the Alton American Legion. Military rites will be performed at the graveside. Collins Funeral Held Monday
Wayne Oliver Collins 43 a Le Mars business partner and father of 11 died from injuries after a truck crash near Pomeroy Indiana. He died Friday at Lutheran hospital Fort Dodge after the crash Thursday evening at the junction of highways 3 and 17. Born September 15 1913 in Le Mars he lived his life there and owned the Gus Pech Foundry with brother Robert A. Collins. Survived by widow four daughters and four sons, mother, sister, brother and grandchildren. Funeral at First Baptist Church Le Mars Monday with burial in Le Mars City Cemetery.

After hours of surgery, Francis Long of Le Mars kept his left arm after a side swipe accident with Robert Powell of Marden, Missouri, near Le Mars. A daughter was born to Carl Beech of Akron on August 23, 1947, and to Mr and Mrs George Ream of Hin ton, Iowa, a daughter born August 20, 1957. Walt Elskamp of Merrill, a longtime harness maker, was hospitalized in Sioux Falls for a heart condition. Pete Wiltgen of Le Mars and several others were admitted to Sacred Heart hospital. A son was born to Russell Van Puersem of Orange City at Grossman hospital, and another son to Claude Gross of Remsen at Sacred Heart. Tractor accident claims life of Iowa State graduate
Robert Elvin, 28, of Hartley area, was crushed when a 12 ton Caterpillar slipped from planks as he loaded it for a culvert project. Coroner ruled the death accidental. Barbee of Spirit Lake found the body around 2:50 p.m. Elvin, Graves Construction employee and Korea veteran, left a widow Betty and four children.
