County fair notes and farm terrace demonstration set
A county wide terrace demonstration will be held at the Albert Petersen farm in Washington township on Friday September 3 starting 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm in conjunction with electing a soil commissioner. Four terrace construction types will be shown using bulldozer moldboard plow whirlwind plow and disk plow. Cattle feeder prices and drought effects noted by Iowa State College economist Francis Kutish. Larry Kennedy elected county 4-H club president for 1958 with officers Wayne Mauss Russell Johnson Sam Phillips and others to be officially installed October 1.

Rabies Cases Rise in State in First Half of Year
Reports of wild animal and livestock rabies increased in the first half of this year with 187 cases in the state, up from 126 in the same period of 1953. Wild skunks accounted for most of the rise with 108 rabid individuals. State officials urge avoiding strangely acting animals, especially skunks raccoons and foxes, and recommend vaccinating dogs and cats. four people were treated for bites January through June.

Well Drilling Sought for Orange City Water Supply
A Thorpe Well company crew arrived in Orange City last Wednesday to search for a new water source near town. Utilities Manager L L Waggoner said the team will drill toward 200 feet to find soft water, near the city water tower. The current deep-well source lies about 600 feet underground in the same area. Wells on river flats near Alton are ample this summer with no shortage seen, though winter and spring drawdowns occur. The new well aims to bolster reliability.

Farm Classified Pages Yield to Shortage in Iowa
In Communia Clayton county a historic Earl Whittle farm house built circa 1846 was razed removing a relic of the Communia society. A wooden shoe was found behind the studding as the structure met its end. Meanwhile Don Larson of Manson lost his billfold while fishing North Twin Lake and Bob Couch of Fort Dodge recovered it days later on the opposite shore.
