Gehlen Schools announce bus service for city pupils starting with the new term on September 7. A single city bus will transport about 50 local students at $3 per child per month, with an additional bus under consideration for athletes and extracurriculars.
Funeral services for Jack Frerichs were held at 2 o'clock Wednesday September 1 at St Johns American Lutheran church Le Mars with Rev Belk officiating. Burial was under the direction of Mauer Funeral Home. Frerichs born May 22 1900 in Plymouth County died at Sacred Heart hospital after two months illness. Survived by widow Dorothy two sons Dennis and Dean a daughter Nancy two brothers Henery Frerichy Akron and Ernest Frerich Le Mars and sisters Mary Gerd Ealers Hawarden Emma Linden Le Mars. Preceded in death by parents two brothers and two sisters.
A marriage license was issued in the Plymouth clerk’s office for Darrell V. Peterson of Storm Lake and Mary Jane Pelter of Le Maur.

Survived by son Donald Pittsburgh two daughters Mrs Kenneth Sol Sibley and Mrs Nobel Sack Portland Oregon and two brothers Walter McCorkell Eureka California and Joseph McCorkell Akron. Funeral 2 30 p m Monday at Mauer Funeral Home burial in Le Murs City Cemetery.
Sheriff Frank Scholer yesterday arrested two men, Junior Howe and Pat Collins, and lodged them in the county jail. They are held on charges of assault with intent to rape on complaint of a Remsen girl.
Joyce Vogelzang, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Vogelzang, married Wayne Gronemeyer, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Gronemeyer, at Concordia Lutheran Church in Stout City. Rev Adolph Meyer officiated. reception followed. The couple will reside in Sioux City after a wedding trip to Colorado.

She was honored for Was I Chosen By God published in Woman's Home Companion, showing that a severe handicap can still lead to service. Nine winners were newspaper writers photographers or cartoonists. others earned for books and magazine articles. Christopher awards honor literature and service, given semi annually in February and August.
Mrs Opal Gollin of Kingnicy announces the marriage of her daughter LaVon to Mr Lee Rachmeier son of Mr and Mrs John Bachmeier of McIntosh SD. The double ring ceremony was held at 4 30 pm on August 8 at St Johns Methodist Church in Tucson officiated by Rev Henry W Nollich. The couple reside at 3633 South Lundy Tucson Mr Bachmeier serves in the U S Air Force stationed at Davis Monthan Air Base.
A baby boy was born under medical care to Mr and Mrs Joseph Richie of Kingsley Iowa on August 27 1954 at the Lutheran hospital in Sioux City Iowa. The infant joins a family awaiting the newborns arrival.
The Plymouth County draft board met in regular session on Thursday August 26 updating classifications for numerous registrants. Changes include shifts to 1-C 4-E and ITC statuses, with personnel such as Peters Merlin Wyot and Wayne LEC Dre adjusted, and special registrations noted for Dr. Lawrence C. OToule.
Le Mars public school enrollment on opening day topped 1133 pupils, surpassing last year by 60 and exceeding the all-time high set in 1932. Elementary numbers rose sharply with 35 percent more pupils, while secondary division gained 15 percent. Henry Schetler of Le Mary suffered a heart attack Thursday and was taken to Sacred Heart hospital where his condition is said to be satisfactory.
Gerald Pallesen, a clerk in the Marcus post office for two years, was appointed acting postmaster effective last week, succeeding Ray Muehl who held the position three years. Muehl resigned to become a field man for the Knights of Columbus. his family will remain in Marcus as Pallesen is expected to be named postmaster in time.
John Kutsh an agricultural economist with the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago will be guest speaker at the Rotary Club dinner in the Eths dining room Tuesday.
The police chief issued a warning to high school students with school permits that these permits are for commuting to and from school only.
