Death of Le Mars resident Ben A. Riegel at 65

Ben A. Riegel of Le Mars died unexpectedly at home on Saturday. He was born August 8, 1900 in Reading township Sioux County and owned a Rush Lake Minnesota lake resort. He worked as a farmer near Stour Center before moving to Le Mars in 1954. Survived by wife Ethel Judy, a daughter in high school, sister Linda Morgan in California, and sixteen brothers. Funeral Tuesday October 2 at St John American Lutheran Le Mars with burial in Pleasant Hill cemetery under Mauer funeral home.

Kingsley’s Band Wins Homecoming Parade Title At Westmar

Kingsley’s High School Band under Warren Mayer won first place at the Westmar Concordia homecoming parade. Le Mars Central High School led by Phil Hanan took second, Akron High School under Martin John earned third. Trophies were presented at halftime of the Westmar Concordia football game by Homecoming Queen Jackie Andrews of Moville Iowa. Also noted is the Max Sloss garden at Guthrie Center producing a large pickle cucumber measuring 13 inches and weighing nearly three pounds.

Mr and Mrs Adolph Groepper of Remsen observed their 50th wedding anniversary with an open house at Christ Lutheran church hall Remsen from 2 to 4 pm on October 30 1437. A family supper followed at 6 pm and another open house 7 30 to 9 pm. They married October 7 1907 at Harar South Dakota. They have seven sons Ernest Harry Walter Clarence Alvin Lawrence and Kenneth all in Marcus and Remsen area.
