Le Mars voters re-elected incumbent R. J. M. Long to mayor with 743 votes over Kenneth Vance 693. Parks commissioner Stanley Post won six-year term 603 votes. Crash Victim Buried Wednesday in Granville
The Globe Post photo by Richard Edie shows the aftermath of a car crash that killed Thomas N. Grady of Granville near Seney early Sunday. Grady’s funeral was held in Granville. Fellow victim Lyle Niebhur, 23, also of Granville, remains in critical condition at Sacred Heart hospital and has been unconscious since rescue. Grady sat beside the driver when the 1936 Fed struck a truck’s rear. Sheriff Frank Scholer reported truck driver Donald F. Luke of Long Prairie, Minnesota, jailed after unable to pay a 100 dollar fine for failing to place flares when his truck broke down. The Long Prairie truck owner was notified, but Luke continued a 30 day jail term as of Wednesday.

The First Methodist church in Sioux City hosted the Friday evening November wedding of Elma Elaine Dragoo and Phillip Severson. Rev. Charles E. Mason officiated beside white rose baskets. bridesmaids wore pastel gowns, she carried a white bouquet, and the bride wore a tea-length gown with lace and a pearl crown. Amid rising flu activity Gehlen school reports about 135 absent daily while overall high school absences fall to six. Six Gehlen teachers were out last week and Merritt Kingsley Union Consolidated closed for most of the week. Central High School notes 25 absent at Franklin on Thursday. Clark grade reports 52 out, the only uptick. Central Elementary 36 out, junior and senior highs 30 absent of 143. Nurse Jane McKenzie says worse may be over. Le Mars schools maintain teaching staff with substitutes and exams scheduled this week.
