Miss Jean Margaret Scott and Dennis E Stelpflug were married October 12 1953 at St James church Le Mars with Father L J Lavelle officiating. Attendants were Mr and Mrs Phillip McAlpin Fort Dodge Ta. The bride wore ice blue taffeta with pearl jewelry and carried a Battenberg lace handkerchief. Reception followed at the Elks Club with fall color decorations and a three tier cake. Funeral services for Ares Jennie Hintz in Le Mars

Funeral services for Ares Jennie Hintz, died Friday in Sioux City, will be at 9 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Le Mars, with burial in Calvary Cemetery. She lived at 1293 22nd Street in Sioux City for the past ten years, born April 1, 1894 in Adrian Minnesota, married to Frank Hintz in Le Mars January 14, 1919. Survivors include three daughters Mrs. Leonard Harnson, Mrs. Kenneth Lanoa, and Mrs. James Red, and four sons William, Robert, Gerald, and Eugene. Body sent to Wiltgen Funeral Home in Le Mars.

Local I. P. S. offices moved several times to city hall site

Informants recall former I. P. S. Co. offices moving from Walter & Light to Billy Arendt Hat Shop location, then to the Lewis Hardware building in 1921 or 1922. About 1935 under manager R. L. Clarke they relocated to the old city hall site now used as city hall after the Hirsch garage became municipal property.

Obituary: Joseph C. Wilberding 64 Remsen leader dies

Joseph C. Wilberding 64 prominent Remsen businessman and Knights of Columbus figure died in Sacred Heart Hospital Le Mars after a week of illness from a blood stream infection. He was born April 29 1889 New Vienna Town and survived by a large family including widow Cecelia and numerous children. Funeral services were held at St Marys Catholic Church with Knights of Columbus in attendance. He served as justice of the peace and led Le Mars Knights circles, with deep ties to the Luxembourg Brotherhood and local fraternal groups.

Remsen Tax Spot Check Finds Few Willful Delinquents

Iowa revenue officials reported Remsen was the only Plymouth County town subject to a spot check on federal income tax filing. Delinquents paid $10,000 in taxes while total delinquents across Iowa paid $21,779.30. Most cases showed no willful misrepresentation. some errors stemmed from mis-spelled names or filing in other states.

Waite Funeral Held for Eva Agnes Waite at St Josephs

Funeral services were held Saturday morning at St Josephs church for Eva Agnes Waite 36 who died Wednesday night after a long illness. A solemn Requiem Mass was sung with Rt Rev Msgr J D Fisch as celebrant and multiple priests assisting. Acolytes were her sons Robert and Donald Waite. Thurifers Earl and Thomas Sieverding. Joseph Albert Cook 67 died Oct 9 after weeklong illness at Sacred Heart hospital. Born Sept 14 1886 in Sacaton Arizona he moved to Plymouth county in 1900. He worked with Le Mars Savings Bank for 43 years and supported Indian mission causes. Funeral Oct 11 at Mauer’s. burial in Schaller with numerous pallbearers and honorary escorts. Survivors include wife Marie, two grandchildren, sister and relatives in California and Iowa.

Westmar Homecoming Weekend on Campus Schedule

Westmar College celebrated homecoming with three days of events from Friday to Sunday on campus. Alumni sent telegrams of congratulations, Reuben Job crowned Homecoming Queen Beverly Eilerbeck Job, and a parade of floats along Le Mars’ business district featured the Westmar and high school bands. The Westmar-Dakota Wesleyan game ended in a 0 to 0 tie, followed by a chatter hour and a talent show, with the Queen's Supper Club hosting the Saturday banquet and services held at the college church.

Accidents Dot Merrill Area With Multiple Collisions

Injuries reported for Alfred Miller in a Sacred Heart Hospital update after a Saturday collision at Highway 29 near Merrill involving Junior Vaughn of Le Mars who ran a stop sign. Also noted were Wallace Tentinger’s crash with a cow west of Le Mars causing $350 damage, and a gravel truck rear ending Emil Schulg’s car near Craig with injuries to Stahl. Other incidents include a Nathan Frolkey bridge collision and various social notes with local residents visiting relations.

Fire damages Siverton residence in South Kingsley

Fire at S M Siverton’s home in South Kingsley destroyed most of the west half of the house after a kitchen start. Rev Powell family awoke to the blaze and alerted authorities. Siverton escaped with only the clothes he wore. Insurance partially covers the loss. Firefighters were also called to Wyndham Bauer farm where a hayrack of corn shucks burned. Bauer moved the rack with a tractor, limiting damage to the hayrack.
