Survived by two sons F Berner Minneapolis and Berner Fort Dodge. two daughters Mrs Orrin Kelly Le Mars and Mrs Wil Fresman Chicago. eight grandchildren four great grandchildren. Remsen Farmer John Maass Dies After Illness
Funeral services were held Sunday for John C Maass 58 prominent retired farmer who died Friday at Sacred Heart hospital Le Mars after a heart attack. Born December 8 1894 south of Remsen he married Ella Seel in 1919 and farmed before retiring to Remsen in 1945. He served in World War I and was active in Christ Lutheran church and veterans groups. Survivors include six children six grandchildren a sister three brothers and a half brother. Burial with military honors followed at Remsen cemetery.

About 165 or 170 people attended the merchant farmer annual dinner at Le Mars Country Club with Carl Schelin presiding. Kenneth Thatcher of the Iowa Farm Bureau urged closer, independent farmer groups and cautioned that government parity payments do not alone ensure prosperity. He warned against relying on business leaders or labor to solve farmers' problems and cited trade and price negotiation examples, stressing common sense and free world trade for prosperity. The event closed with a long informal talk session among guests.
