Dentists Death Looms as Driver Charged After Bridgeport Crash
Dr Alvin Mauer 66 of Le Mars died after being struck by a truck while crossing near Fairfield Connecticut. He was dragged several yards and died in a Bridgeport hospital. Cremation occurred in Pittsburgh with a memorial in Le Mars. Driver Alfred Johnson of Brooklyn faced $1,000 bond on charges. Survivors include wife Bertha and two sons.

Plymouth Red Cross Holds Annual Meeting and Reports
Plymouth county Red Cross workers reported a year of volunteer service with 210 hours by Home Service chairwoman Mrs. Joel Shepherd aiding service members and families. The organization trained 72 in First Aid, shipped gift boxes to veterans, and sent $150 to Dr Albert Schweitzer's hospital. Water Safety enrolled 1460 beginners and swimmers at a cost of 3474.41 dollars. A fundraising drive will continue in March in Le Mars and rural parts of the county.

Road accident claims life of Remsen youth near Lovell
An 18 year old former Remsen youth named Jerry Henrich died after being struck by a road roller while working on a road blacktopping project near Lovell Wyoming. He was taken to Lovell hospital where he died from injuries. Survived by father Ted Henrich a brother Jamo and two sisters Janice and Judy. Mrs Henrich was previously in an automobile crash near Remsen years ago.

Perhaps Hog Thief Returned For Feed
Sheriff Frank Scholer learned on Saturday that twenty bags of hog supplement were stolen from the Clarence Probst farm three miles north and 32 miles east of Remsen. An air compressor used for spraying was later found missing, suggesting the thief returned for feed and equipment. Earlier a separate hog theft was reported nearby, but the farmer’s name was withheld. It remains uncertain if the incidents are connected.

Westmar Honors Dedication With 19–13 Win
Westmar College spoiled the dedication of the new Westmar stadium by defeating Dans College 19 to 13 on Saturday night. Jan Philby connected on 24 and 22 yard TD passes in the fourth and a 52 yard strike in the third as Westmar won. Harrit McCaw starred with a 19 yard TD pass to Paul Unruh and a 23 yard TD run, plus a kickoff. About 3,000 fans attended the ceremony and game.

Verlin Karli, a Le Mars radio and TV man and former army electronics tech, tracked a Russian satellite overnight. He says the 1 watt transmitter on 7 and 15 meter bands was heard as it circled the Earth, possibly transmitting a teletype signal. Silla Morkind of George Iowa filed in Miymouth county district court a $167 500 suit against Chan Pitts head of puis Publications Le Mars alleging injuries from a July 18 1937 collision at the Ashton Osceola county intersection. She claims loss of leg and other injuries from Pitts driving a Buick at over 45 mph and failing to slow or keep lookout. Also notes another victim Miss Elizabeth Pitts recovered. The plaintiff says hospital bills will continue and seeks 167 500 plus costs and interest from July 28 1957.
