Gila Monster Found On Akron Property

A six inch "Gilamonster" was found by Glen Gable on Mrs Ad Gabel's Akron property during basement digging for a new house. Workers handled the lizard without bites reported. The creature matches a small juvenile Heloderma suspectum, a venomous lizard native to Arizona and Mexico.

Death of Kingsley farmer John Gollhofer Sr at 78

John Gollhofer Sr 78 retired farmer of Kingsley died Friday morning at Sacred Heart hospital Le Mars after weeks of illness. Born March 15 1879 at Saronic he moved to Mapleton then Kingsley where he farmed until nine years ago. He and his wife retired to Kingsley about 1945. Surviving: daughter Mrs John A Schoenherr Mapleton. sons John Jr and Frank Kingsley. brother Victor Sarcovie. 18 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Funeral at St Michael church Kingsley. Rev Henry Janse officiated. Burial parish cemetery under Dickinson Funeral Home.

Le Mars Stores Extend Hours Before Christmas

Le Mars stores will stay open after supper on Wednesday and Friday nights until 9 during the weeks before Christmas. They will also be open as usual on Saturday nights. Stores close Christmas Eve. Christmas trees and lights decorate electrolet standards as merchants cooperate with the Chamber of Commerce. Lights were first turned on Friday.

Marie Vondrak Funeral Rites Held for 63

Funeral services for Mrs. Marie Vondrak 63 who died Wednesday at a daughter’s farm home near Hinton were held at Blessed Sacrament Catholic church with Rev. Newman Flanagan officiating. The rosary was recited earlier at Luckin funeral home. Born September 26, 1891 she came to the United States and to the Sioux City area at age ten with her parents. She married Edward Vondrak on November 10, 1910 in Sioux City. he died in 1944. Survivors include two daughters Mrs Beaulieu and Mrs John Bunning of Merrill, five sons Eugene George and Ray of Hinton Robert of Merrill and Harry of Nebraska City, a sister Marguerite Vanoni of Paris, and 29 grandchildren.
