Edge of Blizzard Hits Plymouth County Deep Snow Belts

Plymouth County lies on the storm edge sweeping from the Nebraska Kansas border toward Minnesota and eastern South Dakota. Snow depths reach 10 to 12 inches with drifting expected though western Plymouth is light. Radio KLEM reports 3 inches by morning with more on the way. Deputy Mertes notes cars in ditches between Le Mars and Merrill likely from ice as chains go on and garages fill ahead of worsening driving conditions.

Dr Faber Has Bad Luck With Cars

Two cars were badly damaged in a Thursday collision 27 miles east of Neptune near a narrow bridge at Charles Voridra hill. A 1954 Pontiac owned by Carl Dalton of Kingsley driven by Mrs. Dalton damaged $300 after sideswiping a 1948 Packard driven by Dr Wayne Faber of Le Mars. The Faber car suffered $150 cabin damage after leaving the road. No injuries reported. Dr Faber had earlier this fall had his 1957 Ford destroyed by fire at Harry's Phillips 66 in Le Mars.

Crash Victims Injuries Still Not Fully Known

Miss Mayorne Tremen and friend Joan Wheeler were injured in a collision with Lester Rollins, with details of injuries unclear. Court records show Rollins charged with driving while intoxicated. preliminary hearing transcript filed, mayor released him on a $500 appearance bond. grand jury and district court actions pending.

Canadian Vice Consul Visits Home in Canada Return

George Armand Pashk United States Vice Consul to Canada returned to Toronto after visiting his parents Mr and Mrs Gen V Pavlik of Le Mars and his brother Vincent and family of Merrill. En route he spent time with his brother Norman who taught at Union Iowa High School and with friends in Chicago.

Jack Dalton formerly of Gettysburg South Dakota and linked to real estate ventures with M A Cass Jr and Hugh Dealy in Le Mars died suddenly in San Antonio Texas. The body to be placed in a receiving vault and burial in the spring at Watertown South Dakota.

Westmar Fund Drive Reaches $10181 In Le Mars

Another Small Paper Bites The Dust

The Terril Record, Terrill weekly, suspended after 29 years. Milford Mail, published by Art Schuneman, bought the paper and mailing list. Daughters of the founders Mrs Nona Johnson and Mrs Georgia Moore will operate the merged edition, with weekly Terri Record section in Mitford Mail. Subscriptions will continue under the Mail.

Farmers Union ad sparks retraction in Le Mars paper

A Le Mars Weekly Sentinel page one item reports the Farmers Union ad prompted a retraction by the paper. The issue notes Herbert Phubuce’s anti communism speech and asserts the editor did not endorse the ad or the views expressed. The Farm Bureau Walmer Post and Ply mouth Electric Co op backed the event. The paper faced alleged threats of economic reprisal from another group. Philbrick denies accusing the National Farmers Union as a Communist front and clarifies its non affiliation with any federal entity. The Sentinel states the ad arrived unsolicited and the paper did not approve its content.

State Department Pledges Hidden Papers Promised in 1953

In May 1953 the State Department vowed early publication of long- delayed diplomat records from FDR and Truman administrations. At hearings in April 1954 the department promised completion by 1954 and June 30 1953 publications of Malta Yalta Pow dam and Cuatro Teheran volumes. Congress funded nearly one million dollars 1952 to 1957, but most papers remain unreleased amid claims of executive secrecy. Congressman Henderson of Ohio has conducted substantial research into what is described as a covert cover up.

Boyden Man Hurt By Grinder Accident

Henry Stegemann of Boyden was badly injured when a corn grinder in his home gear shifted as he cleaned corn. He was taken to Osceola hospital at Sibley and his hand was mangled with several bones broken. He is reported to be recovering.

Le Mars to Celebrate Christmas With Free Shows and Lights

Le Mars business leaders plan a festive Christmas shopping season with decorated streets and extensive displays. The city bought plastic star lights, about $3,000 invested in decorations, and Iowa Public Service Co supplies electricity. Born 1875 in Steator Indiana she moved to Le Mars as a child then to Sioux City in 1929 to live with two sisters. She taught at Central High School and was active in Blessed Sacrament Catholic church and Catholic womens groups. Survivors include sisters Miss Jona and Miss Rose and Sister Mary Servatius of Briar Cliff College.

Woman's Club Backs Hospital Bazaar Project

The Linger Longer Federated Club of Le Mars backs the Sacred Heart hospital auxiliary bazaar as its community achievement project for a Sears Roebuck Foundation and General Federation of Women's Clubs contest. Mrs Sampson Breaks Leg In Fall At Home

Mrs J H Sampson, long partially invalid, broke her right leg again in a fall at her home. She rose about 4 30 and fell near the bedroom door, breaking the leg just below the knee. The fracture was cast at Sacred Heart hospital where she is a patient.

Crash Victim Out Of Hospital Very Quickly Milo Granstrom

Milo Granstrom 26 of Eth Point SD was treated at Akron Community hospital for facial cuts, a badly bruised left arm and a knee injury after his 1954 Plymouth radar struck a bridge abutment on Highway 12 south of Akron. He told officers Patrolman Luschen and Constable Blake that a front tire blew out before the impact, sending the car into the bridge railing. the vehicle was completely demolished. The report appeared in last Thursday's Globe-Post.

Northwestern College Receives Farm Gift For Campus Expansion

Northwestern College and Academy of Orange City receives a 110 acre farm in Lyon County valued at 3040 as an annuity gift from Mr and Mrs Martin Van Peursem of Orange City. The gift supports the campus expansion including a large modern multi purpose auditorium on the East Campus. End Ad Racket Labor Press Warning Campaign

The Publisher's Auxiliary reports that over 300 legitimate labor newspapers agreed in Washington to warn businessmen about a racket in the advertising field. Imitation labor papers sell ads with only enough copies printed to satisfy vanity of advertisers, who seek to avoid union trouble. Honest labor leaders view this as blackmail.
