Groenhagen Tops Omaha Market With 24 Steers
Union Township farmer Everett Fritz Groenhagen earned the top price at the Omaha markets last week, with 24 black angus steers selling for 26.75 per cwt. weighing 1,236 pounds after being fed since last fall in Montana. In Germany, PFC Alvin Rens of Orange City Iowa participated in an October field exercise with the 4th Armored Division near Grafenwehr as part of NATO defense in Europe. Rens, a 1954 Western Christian High School graduate, entered service in 1958 and arrived overseas in May. Mrs. Etta Albert returned to Canton South Dakota after a 10 day visit with her daughter’s family, followed by a gathering of relatives from Wisconsin.

Merle Sawyer, a Plymouth County Soil Conservation District member, returned from a training center in Coshocton Ohio joining 24 students from 11 states and one foreign country studying soil and water conservation. At a November 5 ceremony in Sioux City, district cooperators across four states were honored for progress, with special recognition for Elkhorn No 2 Watershed terraces built and six of eleven cooperators credited with 595 miles of terraces.
