Glenn Fulton a west of LeMars farmer, injured his left hand in a corn picking accident on the Elmer Rainboth farm near Kingsley at about 8 30 am. His hand was caught in the picker, the machine shut off, and his cries were heard by Mrs. Thompson. He had the middle three fingers amputated at Sacred Heart hospital and was released to rest at home.
Rev Pannkuk officiated at Trinity American Lutheran Church Akron as 300 plus attendees joined a 65th anniversary service. John Pannkuk Jr spoke, choir performed Built on the Rock the Church doth stand, and sermon centered on gratitude to God for the church and individuals. Offerings supported benevolence work and Lutheran Welfare Society of Iowa. A fellowship dinner followed. visitors and members toured the building fund and future parish educational unit.
Maynard Johnson and George Wilkens of Le Mars Ford and Mercury dealer names are noted. Treasurer Bob Kelly says licensing of new cars this month is very slow compared with past years, likely due to the recent steel strike, affecting activity in Le Mars.
Mrs R C Hodgson and Mrs Marvin Klemme attended the Iowa Division annual meeting at Fort Des Moines. Budget cuts suspend two public activities, ending New Horizon magazine and Nurses Scholarship program due to funds. Dr Robert C Rickey becomes the new Iowa Organization president, as Dean of Medicine at State University of Iowa.
Mr and Mrs Emil Hansen of Le Mars celebrate their 43rd wedding anniversary with a family dinner and gathering on Saturday November 28 1959.

Lloyd Arne of the Iowa Breeders Co op announces the annual meeting for all members will be held Monday evening November 16 at the 4 H building in Le Mars Iowa. Pancakes and sausage will be served from 6 30 to 7 15 p m. Mr Arne says Come and bring the family and a neighbor.
Mr and Mrs Vernon Penning of Rt 5 Le Mars announce the approaching marriage of their daughter Phylis to Richard Werth. The ceremony is set for Saturday November 14 at 7 30 p.m. at Seney Methodist Church. Mr Werth is employed at Swanson Hin Lear.
Gustav R Strom 58 of Phoenix died Friday after a long illness. Services were at Lewison funeral home Akron at 2 p.m. Wednesday with Rev Walter Kallastad of St Paul Lutheran Elk Point officiating. Burial in Elk Point church cemetery. Born January 31, 1901 in Smoland Sweden. Married Johanne Haug of Elk Point December 24 1934 in Chicago. He moved to Phoenix in 1948 for health. Survivors include widow two sisters C E Johnson Arlington Wash and another sister and a brother in Sweden.
Bud Ross of Bud's Super Valu tried to withdraw a free can offer for Festal Pumpkin with Pillsbury crust purchase. The Globe Post had already run the ad in another section before shipment delays. Ross says the offer will resume next week and instead offers three Festal Pumpkin cans for 35 cents this week.
The infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Schroeder of Doon Iowa was buried Thursday afternoon in Remsen Cemetery. Survivors include two brothers David and Jay at home grandparents Ray Schroeder Remsen Loretta Schroeder Le Mars great grandparents J P Schroeder Remsen Lena Masuen Le Mars Mary Schroeder Dearborn Michigan and a sister Mary Virginia who died in 1955.
Crew leader Robert Michael of Westfield 75 supervises a 2 hour training session in census definitions map reading and interviewing at the REA building in Le Mars for Plymouth County enumerators. Thirteen trainees include Gordon Winter Mildred Kurtz Ronald Hull Betty Calkin Joseph Heuertz Roland Detloff Marvin Korver Lucille Pierson Richard Milner Mara Stinton Wim Kruse Donald Fischer and Carmen Gronemeyer. Enumerators earn 13 dollars daily plus mileage with assignments about three weeks at 40 hours weekly. Questionnaires are mailed to farmers and may be filled in advance for pickup. The 1959 Census of Agriculture begins Monday November 16 to update 1954 county farm statistics including sales values for crops and livestock.
Eugene N. McArthur 37 was moved to St Joseph's Mercy Hospital after losing his left foot in a Great Northern freight train accident near Wren Junction. He had left a glove and fell between diesel units while returning for it. cause of the fall remains undetermined.
Marvin Bjork of Le Mars purchased a Chevrolet and Eugene Kipp of Le Mars bought an International truck, expanding their local vehicle fleet.
The Last Man's Club of Le Mars held its 24th annual meeting on Veterans Day November 11 at the American Legion Club Rooms. About fifty members and guests shared a turkey dinner served by the Walmer Post Auxiliary. Reverend J. P. Nooney spoke on preparing youth for tomorrow's citizens and patriots, followed by entertainment from a Le Mars Barbershoppers quartet.
Dr. R J Joynt the democratic county chairman announced that Governor Herschel Loveless will be a guest at the Eagles Club on December 7. Democratic leaders hope Loveless will declare his candidacy for the U S Senate, his first appearance since last fall when he attended a non partisan event at the fair.
Gehlen Le Mars defeated Akron 25 to 6 to clinch the Siouxland Conference championship. George Welter scored twice on passes from quarterback Allen Kennedy, with 2 and 39 yard plays, and Welter added an extra point. Carl Puetz ran 20 yards for the first score and Tom Fisch 40 yards on a reverse for the final touchdown. Gehlen finished 6-2-1 overall, 4-1 in the conference. District planners from Plymouth County attended the American Cancer Society workshop at the Sioux City YMCA on Wednesday, November 4.

The Globe Post recalls a brakeman losing his foot near Struble on what readers misread as Northwestern tracks. The actual carrier is the Great Northern, not the Northwestern, which does not serve the Merrill to Struble segment.

Catholic Daughters of America Court Santa Maria No 179 held a reception for candidates at Gehlen School on Tuesday with Miss Angeline Robberman presiding. Among attendees were past grand regents, district and chapter officers, and guests from Sioux City Cherokee and Sierra Leone. A Day of Recollection observance and bake sale dates were announced, along with a future pat luck dinner and guest speaker Zanibau Roberts from West Africa. The candidate list included Mrs. Louis Burkhard, Mrs. Rita Cain, Mrs. Joanne Fulton, and many others.
Mr and Mrs Lawrence Vun Drak announce the engagement of their daughter Mary Margaret of Sioux City to Don Earl Shull of Sioux City son of Mr and Mrs R Shull of Sac City Iowa. The wedding is planned for late November at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church Sioux City. Mary Margaret is a Heelan High School graduate and bookkeeper at Hook Oldsmobile. Don Earl Shull is a Wentworth Military Academy graduate and a salesman for Automotive Paint and Supply Company in Sioux City.
The Hinton fire department will host a Firemanship Training School taught by Gerald Mills of Iowa State College Engineering Extension. Topics include fire chemistry first aid extinguishment pump operations tactics inspections and local problem solving. Classes meet Monday evenings November 16 23 30 and December 7 for three hours each.
A colder wind from the north brought five inches of snow by noon with a low of 19 and a high around 21. Snow fell steadily all morning causing slick highways and hazardous conditions. school dismissed in the afternoon and buses sent home while snow plows worked against heavy odds. Deputy Jim Mertes reported slick roads and sheriff department involvement.
Police report states two cars collided at Plymouth street and 2nd Ave Sowheast at 1245 pm on November 10. Gerald Farravey of Walthill drove a 1982 Studebaker west that struck the rear of a 194% Ford driven by Mary Singer of Morril who had stopped to make a left turn. Damages estimated at $75 to the Studebaker and one to the Ford.
