On Saturday May 12 two men parked a truck in front of Butch Braband's Recreation Parlor and entered to buy beers from Joe Rublen. They claimed Nick Kamp sold the building to a Sioux City man and that they were moving furniture for new tenants. They left after suspicion arose. Kamp denies any sale or keys transfer and police question if the men were culprits or pawns in a larger plot.

Funeral services for George Thomas Brown, 88, lifelong Sioux County resident, will be at 4 PM Tuesday at Ireton Presbyterian Church. He died Saturday at home. Rev. Man Falls From Scaffolding At Remsen Elevator Site
Donald Davis Jr. of Primghar, 19, was injured Friday while working on the Remsen elevator project for Younglove Construction. He fell head first from a scaffold about 30 feet high but caught another scaffold, saving his life. He was treated at Sacred Heart hospital Le Mars for a fractured toe and severe bruises, then released to recover at home. A similar accident at Hinton last year had a fatal outcome.

Sylvester R. Nothem, 39, former Remsen theater owner, was sentenced to three years in federal prison for income tax evasion and theater admissions tax evasion, followed by three years probation. He underpaid taxes by 4,833 and underreported admissions tax in 1952-53. The April 27, 1956 hearing found him competent to defend himself. Probation rules bar alcohol consumption.
