Northwest Iowa Power Cooperative crews have had to replace poles burned by fires caused by weed burning along fence rows. Each fire is energized with three conductors at 69,000 volts. Do not use water on a pole fire and contact the cooperative immediately.
The Le Mars Chamber of Commerce adds a Bureau of Missing Persons alongside Agriculture Civic Retail and Industries and Services. Sixteen inspectors from each bureau study case histories, examine records, and check clues under Chief Inspector John Vollmar and Captains Bob McKune Darren Keterson Al Enghers and Orval Nielson. Searches run through the Chamber office with weekly cards assigned to inspectors bearing a missing person’s name.

Local court records show Mark Kemp fined for speeding in the mayoral court this week. The offense carries a $10 penalty and reflects a routine municipal enforcement action.
Titus Knuebel a longtime Treton resident died at 8 15 Thursday May 24 after a stroke. Born in the Netherlands he came to the U S as a young man married in Kansas April 3 1900 and moved to Ireton in 191% where the couple lived since. They observed their 56th wedding anniversary in 1956. Funeral arrangements are pending pending relatives are heard from. He was a member of the Christian Reformed church with Rev John Hurst pastor. Burial will be in Pleasant View cemetery in Treton. Survivors include his wife nine daughters Mrs Willim Brown Mrs Harold Copper Mrs Herman Van Zyl Mrs Wilson Van Bruggen all of Chicago Mrs William Van derKiest of Dyndon Washington Mrs Edward Biemers of Sioux Center Mrs John Decker Mrs Henry Van Bruggen and Marian Vellinza all of Treton. one son preceded him in death.

Baccalaureate rehearsal May 25 at 10 15 and services May 27 in the high school auditorium feature a school orchestra and mixed chorus. Brinkhuis Brothers Datriet Court suit alleges October 26 1988 accident one mile north of Le Mars on Highway 75. Colwell Oldsmobile driven by Mrs Glen Lloyd pulled off road when Brinkhuis Tenney truck passing caused swerve into east ditch. Plaintiffs seek $6384.20 plus 5 percent interest from October 26 and costs.
The Westmar Band and Chorus perform an outdoor concert on Sunday May 27 at 3 00 P M on the college campus in front of Thoren Hall. The program features band and chorus numbers with ensembles including brass sextet and the college male quartet directed by Dr Richard Parker and Larry Day. Public invites. Miss Erma O'Brien and Earl O'Brien have returned from a week with cousins in Madison and Oregon Wisconsin.

The Home Economics Department at Westmar College hosted its Annual Style Show in Tharen Auditorium on Friday May 8. Women’s garments were sewn in class, men's outfits came from Bower’s Clothing Store in Le Mars. The event featured a reception and Art Exhibit, with Prof. Esther Brown leading Home Economics and Prof. Rudy Metniesh directing Art.
Elmer Ricklefs of Treton died at his Reading township farm on May 24, 1956 after a heart attack. Born February 23, 1908, he was never married. Survived by two brothers Filt and Fred and two sisters Mary and Mable, all of Ireton. Funeral at St. John’s Lutheran Church Read ing township May 27 at 2:00 p.m. Burial in church cemetery under Mau er funeral home Le Mars. Archman’s Brotherhood activities noted with Maynard Brab and Henry Funk hosting.
The Board of Supervisors approved two summer blacktop contracts totaling $259,418. Lee and Johnson Inc. won surface work on county roads L and J: 3.684 miles for $93,322 and 8.142 miles for $206,842. Cameron Joyce & Co. won two contracts for the Akron area roads F and A totaling $159,253.
Gene Kennedy was granted a divorce from John M. Kennedy. The couple married on August 18, 1949, and the divorce was granted at the Plymouth County Clerk's office.
Des Moines FHA appraiser Wallace Lindberg completed a study of Le Mars detailing a strong hinterland influence. He praises the town for new homes, churches, schools, Westmar College, and a well-kept landscape. Lindberg notes the surrounding trade area benefits from productive soil and farm families, predicting future progress and high cultural standards. Dr. and Mrs. A. J. A Wells ice cream truck outside Horner's Chevrolet garage at 1:00 p.m. appeared to be burning but no damage occurred. A ammonia leak was reported in the refrigeration unit. Le Mars fire department was called.

Martinsville farmer wrecked 33 parking meters on the city square Sunday night, driving a farm truck onto the sidewalk and knocking meters like bowling pins. He was arrested and held without charge. Also notes a Chicago wedding trip by Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Hamman and Emily for their son Wayne, Merrill High School graduation details, and various local mentions including photos and awards.
At a Iowa county attorney conference Dayton Countryman notes many unarrested liquor buys. County Attorney Wm Sturges seeks padlocks on Le Mars and Remsen sites, naming 7 or 8 buys in total. Proceedings, not contested, will likely result in padlocks.

Memorial Day events are set for Wednesday May 30 beginning at 9 00 a m with a parade through the business district from Central Ave and 1st St north to Calvary and the city cemetery. Chief Fay Terpenning will marshal the day with speakers from Wasmer post American Legion Women’s Auxiliaries and local officials. If rain gates move to Le Mars high school auditorium.
