St James Summer Mass Schedule at St James Le Mars

The St James Catholic Church in Le Mars announces its summer Mass schedule. Sunday masses in June July and August will be at 6 00 7 00 and 9 00 a.m. Weekday masses run 7 00 and 7 30 a.m. Ascension Thursday May 30 will have 6 30 and 8 30 a.m. and an evening mass at 7 00 p.m. for the Coronation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Mary Crowning.

Most Le Mars Stores To Close For Memorial Day

E. W. Rogers, secretary of the Le Mars Chamber of Commerce, said on Saturday that most Le Mars business and professional places will be closed for Memorial Day. Ascension Day is observed as a holy day by some churches. Some stores plan to serve farm customers, and several filling stations will close or run short shifts to allow employees time off. Gas service will be available for Memorial Day motorists and highway traffic.

Wilms Couple to Mark 50th Anniversary in Akron

Mr and Mrs John T Wilms of Akron will observe their 50th wedding anniversary on June 2 with an open house from 2 to 4 PM at the Umen Creek Lutheran church northwest of Akron. They married June 1 1907 in Germany and came to the U S in 1901 farming in Minnesota and Wisconsin before settling in Akron in 1967. They have three sons Frank Edward and Henry all of Akron two daughters Mrs Otilda Heyl of Akron and Mrs Jana Herbert of Sioux City and 11 grandchildren. No formal invitations issued.

Hoeven Eye Operation Is Pair Cause

Reports from Walter Reed Hospital in Washington indicate Congressman Charles B. Hoeven of Iowa's Eighth District is recovering from cataract surgery on the left eye. He entered May 15 for the operation. doctors say it was successful and he should be back in the Capitol soon. Hoeven voted against killing the soil bank. the measure was defeated anyway as Plymouth County farmers face rain for crops.

Worthington youths greet return from Germany as ambassadors

Gene Janssen and Eddie Blair arrived in New York aboard the Olympia on May 20, returning from studies in Germany. The Worthington natives were welcomed as ambassadors, with plans for interviews at the Empire State Building and appearances on Voice of America. They left Worthington June 29, 1956, after attending German schools. They were to reach Tracy, Minnesota by train Friday, May 24.
