Husband and Wife in Near Head On Crash Near Marcus
Esther Bloomquist and her husband Erich of Rockford Illinois were hospitalized after a collision between their car and a semi truck driven by Richard Halstrom near Marcus Iowa on Highway 5. Both are parents of five. their condition was listed as fair. The truck was heavily damaged and the Bloomquist auto was a total loss. The cause of the crash was not determined at report time. The couple was en route to visit family in South Dakota. Their families had recent strokes.

Accident Involving Two Cars On Central Avenue May 2
On Tuesday May 2 at 9 p m a two car collision occurred at Central Avenue and Second Street South. Laws Westhoff of Le Mars driving a 1988 Chevrolet northbound allegedly hit the rear of a 1938 Ford driven by James Gengier of Le Mars. Estimated damage was 80 to the rear end of the Ford and 80 to the Chevrolet. Westhoff paid a 180 fine in Mayors coin on a charge of failure to have his vehicle under control.

Kidnapping Suspect Charged in Elopement Abduction Case
John C. Lamb, 27, of Sioux City, is charged with abducting Karen Schrouten, 20, of Hinton, and driving her to St. James, Minnesota. He allegedly feigned a self inflicted wound during the trip and claimed they were engaged. Lamb was returned to Woodbury County jail after details emerged from court statements and deputy reports.
