Vermillion coroner's jury hears drunken driving claim in SD student crash
A Vermillion South Dakota coroner's jury heard testimony that a University of South Dakota student group in a weekend crash had been drinking. Richard Rippey of LeMars was fatally injured when the Wattson driven car swerved into the left lane. Testimony showed two cars may have passed each other and involved students from Vermillion and Lake Andes. Witnesses said whisky was consumed and one rider was hospitalized with serious injuries. The inquest adjourned to a date to be set.

LeMars Chamber of Commerce has purchased an 8 by 18 foot float from Jesse Erskine Co of Sioux City. Built in LeMars the float will feature a Plymouth county map in gold on red and promote the county as the park capital of the world with local industries. Five bookings are already set including the American Legion convention in Spencer, the Orange City tulip festival, and the Cherokee Centennial plowing contest in June.

Dr. W. S Thoman of Sioux City will become the Sacred Heart hospital radiologist starting April 1 1956. He will commute two or three days weekly from Sioux City. Thoman trained at Creighton University Omaha with degrees in MD BSM and MS and served in WWII as Lt JG in the Naval medical corps. Larsen And From Jail Rearrested In Plymouth County
Frank Scholer reported that 19 year old Carl F Larsen was picked up in Sioux City after a Plymouth county arrest warrant. Larsen is back in Le Mars facing larceny charges for stealing a battery from a farmer, began a possible 30 day jail term after failing to appear for a hearing. He pleaded guilty to daytime larceny under 20 dollars and a $100 fine plus 30 days in jail were imposed. He is trying to raise the money to serve the sentence.

Second Set Of Twins Born To Vernon Britt
Twin daughters Carol and Carla Britt were born at Sacred Heart hospital in LeMars on March 24 to Mr and Mrs Vernon Britt. This is the couple’s second set of twins. the family also has a son Gerald aged 8 and a daughter Diane aged 6. Maternal grandparents are Mr and Mrs M J Roeser of LeMars. Mrs Britt, formerly Marie Roeser, and the twins weigh 6 pounds 7 ounces and 6 pounds 7 ounces and are doing well. They will return to their farm home near Neptune this week.

Aged Akron Man Is Dead By Hanging
Charles Utesch, 83, of near Akron, took his own life by hanging late Wednesday evening. Coroner S. H. Luken said today after viewing the body at the Rossow funeral home. He had lived with his son Elmer southwest of Akron for two years and was despondent since his wife’s death in 1951. Surviving: sons Elmer, Frank of Merrill, daughter Leona Witt of Hawarden. six grandsons and six great grandchildren. Frank J. Burg, 63, former Burg's dry goods store owner in LeMars, died Monday at home in California after a heart condition. Hentges relatives notified burial was held Thursday, March 29, at a Catholic church in Los Angeles. He and his wife left LeMars 27 years ago, lived in Minneapolis, then Los Angeles. no children survive.

Elmer Fessler Funeral Held in Sioux City
Elmer Fessler of Sioux City died recently and funeral services were held today at Anderson's Funeral Home with Rev. Harris Hirscher of Third Presbyterian Church officiating. He served the Sioux City Water Department for 48 years and was married in 1921 to Minnie Wieland of Le Mars, who survives. Sister Anna Wieland is also mentioned.
