Trailer Dwellers Luck in Fire Destroys Staebell Trailer
Mr and Mrs Cecil Staebell suffered a major fire at their seven thousand five hundred dollar three bedroom trailer in Erdmann trailer court Le Mars on March 3. The blaze started in a south side room likely from a furnace explosion melting interior items and scorching walls. Their children Linda and Donnie were away with their mother at the wash house and escaped harm. Firemen moved a mattress from the bedroom and later found a second smoldering mattress. The couple will stay with Mr and Mrs Joe Staebell while they arrange a new trailer. the home was insured and Mr Staebell works for Wiltgen Construction.

Thelma Johansen Shot To Death In Sioux Falls Home
Thelma Johansen a 46 year old former Le Mars resident was found shot in her Sioux Falls home Friday. Investigators cited a 12 gauge shotgun blast as the cause damaging the side of her head with powder burns. Husband Daniel Johansen discovered the body in the living room near the door to the kitchen and later moved the body and picked up the gun. Coroner Wil s Newson police chief William Johnson and Sheriff Edward Sampson are handling the case with no immediate report. Survivors include three sons Robert Paul Francis and Norman Jean Backer four daughters Beverly Waddell Dorothy Sullivan Pearl Hagerty and others two sisters and a brother. The body was sent to the Rubieseman Nelson funeral home in Yankton.

LeRoy Hauswirth, 34, of Remsen, was severely injured in a 9:30 am Friday crash on Highway 75 three miles south of Hinton. He sustained critical injuries and was reported in stable condition at Methodist Hospital Sioux City. Investigators say his 1957 sedan struck the truck’s left rear, glancing off a bridge abutment into a ditch. the truck driver was Robert J. Leverder of Grand Island Nebraska.
