New Pennant Shaped Road Signs Tried Out In Iowa

The Iowa State Highway Commission installed about 600 experimental no passing zone pennant shaped signs on U S highway 30 from Camden to the Missouri River Bridge west of Missouri Valley. Signs are 3 by 4 feet with illuminated letters on yellow. They aim to give drivers better sight distance and warn of no passing zones where yellow lines exist.

Airplane Crash Kills Three in Iowa Snow

A snowstorm near Ida Grove, Iowa, caused a plane to crash into a hillside, killing three Woodbury county residents. County Attorney James Brodie, Sheriff’s Deputy Jim Biggs, and Mrs. Eileen Murphy died in the wreckage, which burned beyond recognition.

Don Greenwald sold the business to Floyd Powell formerly Merrill town clerk and publisher of the Merrill Reminder, now operator clerk at the Le Mars railroad passenger station. Crocker to National Swim Meet

Harwood Crocker of Minneapolis reports his son Danny Crocker, a Edison High School graduate, excels in swimming and water skiing. Danny, six feet one inch and 163 pounds, holds city and YMCA pool records with times of 54.2 in 100 free, 23.8 in 50 free, and 18.6 in 40 free. He led butterfly last year and has 32 medals. He heads to the National YMCA meet in April at Colorado Springs hoping the relay team places. Funeral services for Le Martian parents held in Orange City

Funeral services were held Thursday at Bethel Reformed Church for Mr and Mrs Gert Meserer who died in an automobile crash four miles north of Orange City. Rev Wesley Snedes officiated. Burial followed at Sioux Center Cemetery. Mr Meyer, 81, and Mrs Meyer, 73, left four sons Henry in Zealand Michigan Richard in Sioux Center Gerrit in Orange City Peter in Volga South Dakota and two daughters Mrs Lambert Hagen Hospers and Mrs Anthony Teunissen Le Mars. Dr Atlo Neumann Orange City veterinarian remained hospitalized with a concussion broken wrist and facial laceration. He was pinned under the steering wheel after the head on collision. Sheriff said six county traffic fatalities this year. Weather and road conditions were clear.
